In surprisingly good shape. The nose has lifted notes of cloves and blueberries with some more complex iodine and underbrush coming through. The palate is an open - knit affair, a little soupy but punctuated with plenty of tart cranberries and a little menthol which gives character. Punchy spices and meat stock on the finish. Rakish tannins. Imperfect but lovely.

20 years old with questionable storage for probably 10-12 of that. Cork had wine soaked all the way to the top. Not ideal for a great bottle but it wasn't bad and after an hour decant and another hour in the glass with limited drinking, it opened up and was enjoyable with a filet. Had elements of aged Bordeaux. Worth a drink.

Cranberry core with a bricked rim. Nose of blackberry, pomegranate, roasted tomatoes, mineral, cedar, black currant, rosemary and tobo. Very much the same on the palate with some intensity of flavor, but with incredible balance also. The tannins are fully resolved making this a round, engaging wine. At first, I thought I detected some raisin on the finish, but as the night wore on, whatever might have been there dissipated. As inconsistent as the ‘88 vintage was, this was a good wine. Surprisingly only a heavy shadow of sediment on the shoulder of the bottle. 12.5% alc. With butter poached prime rib (a killer dish of the most perfect prime rib I have ever tasted. A good pairing. With Mark Tinsley. Highly Recommended.

Over the hill; a bit astringent. Nice color in the glass but not a great showing
