Thursday, January 29, 2009 - Double decanted for 1 hour. Nose is ripe blackberries, tobacco, earth and slight herbal note, possibly basil. On the palate immediately sweet strawberries, tart blackberries leading into a somewhat hollow mid-palate then a wash of tobacco, earth and tannin. The acid and tannin on the end linger for 30 seconds at least and are pleasant. Overall the wine is somewhat off-balance. I would say it is not ready to drink, I would think age would help smooth the tannin and acid and help the flavors integrate. The wine did pair nicely with a medium-rare lamb chop and asparagus.
