Right off, honeysuckle and charred oak with weight and palate feel that was very much like Meursault, right down to the hazelnut and cinnamon-like spiciness. As it opened out, the wood thankfully dropped back to a more supporting role, orange zest came to the fore, the acidity and minerality perked up, and the body became a little less dense. In the end, very good, but not as finely tuned or exciting as the 2002 was when we drank it last year. The wood sticks out a bit compared to the older vintage.

1/7/2013 2:43:00 PM - cartime-I think it is surprisingly open and ready to go. There is little structure to be resolved, and I don't foresee it improving with further time in the bottle since the acidity is certainly not that high. Let's put it this way: the 2002 had more in reserve at age ten than this had at age 5+.
