Wednesday, December 26, 2012 - Hard though it is to believe for a wine from this vintage, this really does need either a lot more time in the bottle or a long decant. Serverd next to the 78 Petrus, this is the more concentrated wine and has the darker colour. Black tea and some dark fruits on the nose and initially the wine is just a little bit hard. Like the Petrus though, it starts to unfurl with air, but it needed longer than the 2 hours we gave it. Touch of strawberry appears and while the finish is not short, it does not have the length of the Petrus. 1 left, which I'll drink next year at either Trudi's or Jelle's 40th, and I'll probably open the day before and then stick the cork back in. Both these bottles go to show that ratings by critics have to be taken with a big pinch of salt
