Sunday, January 1, 2006 - Garnet, with a good deal of ruby – not nearly as dark as other vintages or the last time I had this a few years ago. The nose is initially all new oak, but this quickly blows off to reveal black cherry, earth and some exotic spiciness from the oak treatment. Pretty full on the nose. What really impresses me about this wine is how balanced it is on the palate – this is not over the top at all. Drinking well now, but will remain so for a while. A rush of fruit mixed with great character – very seamless. Cloves, spice and a lingering finish. Far and away the best d’Ampuis I have had. (19)
