  • 2013 Domaine de la Folie Côte de Beaune Clos Marey Rully

(at Chez George - Paris, 375 ml) Youthful ruby color. Young, fruity nose that is somewhat floral. Light bodied with juicy acid. Nothing special - to drink young as there is little stuffing for future development. (84)

  • 2011 Domaine Jamet Côte-Rôtie

(at - Le Villaret - Paris) This is traditional Cote Rotie in spades. If you like fruit dominated wines only, steer clear of this no matter the scores or reputation. Gorgeous brambly fruit mixed with herbs, bacon fat and peppercorns. Like drinking the grapes and the vineyard too. I think it will be much better in five years and will improve far longer based on balance. Not criminal to open today but be prepared for some big, in your face flavors. The definition of sauvage. What a contrast to the Guigal Saint Joseph Lieu Dit from the weekend. Not better - just different (93+?)

  • 2012 François Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre

(at - Le Villaret - Paris) A marvelous wine drunk at my favorite restaurant for wine in Paris. Very light color is followed by a captivating nose of clean Chardonnay fruit, some white flowers and a boatload of crushed stones. The nose grows with complexity with air. Though young, the palate has both depth and refreshing qualities. Has a bit more oak than expected but this takes nothing away from the wine. Will gain more depth with age though I don't have an issue drinking it now. Finish is very long. This is a great wine of purity. (93)
