Thursday, November 24, 2022 - Barely to dark red in color with a 3mm clear edge. PNP, drank a glass with Thanksgiving dinner over an hour and revisited a day later. Had this on Thanksgiving 3 years ago, and I found that bottle much more provocative. This bottle showed less intrigue and was focused on the black olive and black pepper character on both the nose and palate along with scorched earth and minerality. Plenty of garrigue and juniper, with a strong vein of anise too. Some cured meats, but less than I recall previously. This now is a medium bodied wine, with more of a dried fruit character of dried cherry and raspberries. Some have commented about the alcohol in more recent notes, but I don't find that to be an issue. I can see where one might confuse the very strong black pepper for alcohol burn, but that is not the case in this bottle anyway. While this is still pleasant and the tannins offer some firmness, I would strongly suggest drinking these soon.
