90 Points

Saturday, January 21, 2006 - This is a rich garnet, opaque red, with some tearing down the glass. The smell is moderately fruity with hints of cherry, raspberry and pepper/spice. Taste is medium- to full-bodied and velvety, slightly "chewy". Spice and mellow fruit flavours dominate, with lots of structure that is not overbearing. The acidity and sugars are well blended, medium-strength tannins dominate and are sustained at the end for a nice mellow, long finish. After breathing for an hour or so, the tannins soften nicely and make this an easy-drinking wine with enough "oomf" to be savoured on its own, or stand up to grilled meat or a cheese platter. Great value at around $8 and one of the most popular wines at a wine tasting I held.
