I don't know what it was like in it's early life but in tasting the 2009 as well (90), I can see where this wine could have been viewed as awkward and scored lower earlier on. Now it is very well balanced, good fruit, French oak, with a good finish. Not a huge, fruit forward cab that is more en vogue today. Certainly has the structure to go another 5-7 years.
