Saturday, December 26, 2009 - Popped and poured. Medium-plus purple/red hue. Initially a bit tight, this opened up after about an hour to show pleasant notes of black currant, blackberry, earth, and oak. Medium-plus body. As with the nose, this young wine took about 60 minutes to really begin expressing itself on the palate...and even then, it never seemed to settle. However, there is a very nice core of plummy fruit, vanilla bean, and oak (which lends an interesting hint of banana) plus chewy yet unobtrusive tannins that help carry the the flavors through on the moderate finish. This wine just needs a few years to settle down and may drink well for many more. (88-90)
