Saturday, February 25, 2012 - Popped and poured. Medium-plus deep, ruddy purple/garnet. Forward aromas of cocoa powder, vanilla bean spice, cherry cola...seems almost drenched with oak. Medium-plus body. On the palate, dark fruits are again combined with overly overt, sweet oak notes of vanilla, crushed spices, and toast. Didn't evolve after further aeration in any significant way. Somewhat chunky tannins on the moderate close. Seems to be an awkward place right now...would be best to age and hope the oak integrates.

Quick comment: Not sure if there's some bottle variation or simply that my palate was off...but this wasn't nearly at the level of a bottle tasted last summer.
