Tuesday, April 3, 2012 - Cork was wet through and through but the wine seems in good condition. Color is surprising for a wine this age--deep ruby with no bricking whatsoever. The nose is also fairly tame. Some fungal elements but not much fruit. A little jam and spice under the surface. On the palate, mushrooms and dark berries explode forward, then quickly give way to a dry woodiness with a slightly bitter finish. Even after 4 hours, the bitter finish never mellowed. If not for that I would have scored this in the 90s.
