Tuesday, January 28, 2014 - Deep ruby without any visual sign of maturity. A strong whiff of charred oak quickly blew off, giving way to gamy, spicy cherry fruit, fresh ground coffee and then secondary perfume and pine needle. Big for Pinot, terrific intensity, exhilarating acidity and round tannins atop a discretely woody base. Grand Cru depth and character, still in the early portion of its drinking window. I was shocked to see how similar my note was from just over 8 years ago and how slowly it has opened up. Forceful wine with early complexity.
