95 Points

Saturday, November 18, 2023 - Quite quiet, tea, earl grey, herbaceous, spices, chai spice, overripe blackberry fruits. Perhaps not the most energetic or fresh example of 1985, but entirely mesmerizing nonetheless. Delicate and incredibly detailed. Layers of complex spice and drying fruits. The very generous owner of this bottle wasn’t thrilled but I was very happy to spend the evening with this and study the intricacies and watch the development. A unique wine in a dimension of its own, even if this bottle wasn’t as mind-expanding as it can be. I’d also say that this was in the middle of a massive blow out dinner and much of the nuance may have been lost on the fray and this would likely have shown stronger in isolation. Maybe.
