Thursday, January 19, 2012 - Tasted over two days. Deep maroon, full bodied. The nose shows black fruit along with some oaky notes. I was expecting a thick new world red wine, and I was quite surprised. First, the positives- great palate weight, good levels of acidity and a good wine with a NY strip. The negatives- this had a jarring herbal green streak running through the palate which got worse as the wine was open. By the second night, it had simply turned bitter. Additionally, this faded way too quickly- the bitterness gave way to a tired example which tasted like a lousy Trader Joe's bottle or something you get as glass pour in an airport bar which could sit for days.

I'm not familiar enough with Chilean wines to know what the Gran Reserva designation means, but I assume it would be a good thing- this is not.
