Sunday, May 7, 2023 - Followed for 48 hours. Day 1, red fruit aromatics after 30 minutes of coaxing but finish dominated by chewy, astringent tannins. Day 2, the nose and palate were dominated by oak. Tannin had softened a bit but finish was still a bit bitter. At 48 hours, similar notes. Held up perfectly but the oak was omnipresent. Not sure what this will be when the oak finally integrates.

1/28/2024 2:15:00 PM - Not sure I can follow/agree your comment. Just had this beautiful 2001 Leoville Las Cases an can only recommend to give it 3+ hours decanting time. The wine is pristine and opens up with lots of air. Tannins are beautifully integrated, there‘s length and power to it. Fantastic structure and length arise from the fantastic fruit without excess. It‘s simply balanced with mainly secondary notes. Provenance might play a big role here. An absolutely stunning example of this beauty that‘s going to stay on that level for many more years before developing into tertiary stage..!
