Monday, September 6, 2010 - Flannery Steak Trial Run (The Lew Residence): Decanted 6hrs prior to drinking. Overall, a very disappointing showing as it never opened up. Nose had a little coffee and toast with a little cassis. Palate was refined and focused, of obvious pedigree, but fruit was hidden beneath layers of fine silky tannins. Short to medium woody finish. No obvious flaws, with perfect cork. Shows promise, but little enjoyment today.
On day 2 was certainly more open, with currants, cedar, and mocha on the nose and a little red fruit on the palate. Finish of complex oak flavors. Still nothing that you would expect from a bdx of this estate, just recognizable as bdx. Probably an off bottle. NR but would score in 85-87 range.
