90 Points

Thursday, October 5, 2006 - (Purchased from Premier Cru) Popped and poured, hmm is this corked? No just really, really barnyardy. Dumped it into a carafe-style decanter. 30 minutes later, much better. On the nose, crunchy cherry, strawberry, dried herbs, hint of burnt coffee and some funk still but within tolerable range. Same on the palate, finishing with firm but approachable tannins. At about the 45-50 minute mark this is downright delicious, open for business, impressively balanced and going down easy. Too bad we left it in the decanter -- by 75 minutes starting to close up a bit, tannins become firmer and a bit harsh in the midpalate. Overall....impressive, drinking quite well now, but take care not to overdecant.
