Friday, May 9, 2014 - Not a very good wine, especially coming from the wizard of Northern Rhône.
Even if this is a large scale production wine, I do expect more (and usually get more) from his cheaper bottlings too.
Some earth and herbs on the nose, that was quite uninteresting and muted, even after 3 hours in a decanter.
Not very expressive or interesting.
The palate is quite thin & week, decent acidity and some signs of darker Syrah fruit, with a metallic thing on the finish that further ruins the overall impression.
Not up to Guigal standard.
I had two bottles that I have saved in the cellar since release.
The first one opened tonight was corked, but I could find nothing wrong with this bottle, except for the content perhaps.
Simple truth, this is what it is, and it will not get better.
