Sunday, May 5, 2013 - See my 6/29/12 note. Consistent, but I think the wine has evolved a bit more and really is now in its prime. Drank with nothing more than a pour through a vinturi. Deep, dark red, almost black in the glass, like a petite syrah. Wonderfully elegant bouquet of dark red fruits, Autumn flowers, some moist tobacco and a background of vanilla. First glass was just a touch tannic and tight (I always like to try the first glass straight from the bottle, without aeration). Every glass thereafter until the bottle was finished was very good. On tasting you get a classic, rich Cali cab fruitiness, without over-extraction. When done right, as was the case here, there is almost a sweetness to the fruit. Long and lingering. Drank well by itself, and with the prime beef filets we had grilled. On top of its game, and I think there is every reason to believe it will not fall off any time soon. Nice job, Davis!
