Community Tasting Note

92 Points

Wednesday, August 19, 2015 - I gave the same score for this wine as I gave a Kosta Browne pinot last week, but for entirely different reasons. I needed to decide whether or not to buy the 2013 vintage, so I decided to pop open this '08 Alpine to see how it's behaving. It is drinking beautifully. I disagree with a previous notes that mentioned it might be confused with syrah because it tastes like 100% varietally pure pinot noir. It tastes like a 2nd tier Premier Cru burg from a top vintage. Delicate and balanced, and the fruit and subtle spice sneaks up on you. It may not wow non-wine nerds but it is intellectually outstanding. This didn't help with my decision as it tastes exactly as a $80 price point pinot should taste, not underachieving or overachieving in my opinion.
