Sunday, July 26, 2015 - Decanted, had moderate sediment. Initial observations: Deep garnet color. A little funk on the nose (which I expect that to blow off), plus a faint hint of plum. On the palate, plums and dark cherries. Acids are OK. The tannins are too strong and are out of balance with the fruit, leaving a bitter aftertaste.
Day 2: In so far as the nose, funk was gone and plums slightly more prominent. Would still like more fruit, but I guess at this age, the fruit is on the way out. In general, the wine seems a bit more balanced, and I'm going to increase the rating from 85 to 87. Probably time to drink up, but I'll decide for sure on the next bottle.
