Interestingly, this bottle is showing a little less tired than the last, in spite of the cork breaking (stained 1/4 way) and the other being two years ago. Don't get me wrong, it's still "drink up" status for sure, but it's still enjoyable enough (can't believe I didn't get to another for two years!). Opaque black color with garnet to tawny at the very edges. Aromas of dark fruits, dark chocolate, walnuts, licorice, clove, and graphite—Bordeaux-like and quite nice actually. Medium body and acid, medium (-) finish, and flavors of dark fruits, dark chocolate, walnut, tobacco, licorice, lemon, and minerals. Not mad at this actually. Had it with a minestrone soup, but a steak, steak sandwich, or sausage and peppers would probably be better. It's a nice standalone sipper post meal as well.

This had some similar notes as the '06 that was consumed just prior, but it was overall softer and generally drinking pretty tired by comparison. So yeah, I'd say drink up if you still have any of these; unfortunately I've got 4 more. Very dense coloring with brickish garnet at the very edges. Aromas of dark fruit, licorice, clove, black tea, walnuts, and dark chocolate. Light to medium body, medium acid and finish, and flavors of dark fruits, black tea, dark chocolate, and graphite minerality.

Past or at the very end of its drinking window. Not bad, but it was so much better when it was younger. Some funky notes on the nose, although that blew off. Notes of soy sauce on the palate.

My previous bottle of this was in 2015. Popped 'N poured in a restaurant with my wine group. Very nice, the sangiovese felt like it dominated, with the wine having a palate cleansing acidity.

Great purity of fruit, black cherries and plums going into the preserved fruit stage with prune and chocolate emerging. Very nice underlying spice and volcanic-like minerality, finely powdered tannins and rather bright acidity. This has some years left it. Delicious.
Cork stained half-way up. Decanted and found minimal sediment: Odd, since my notes of 7/26/2015 indicated a moderate amount. First pour after 90 minutes. Still a deep garnet color, and with no bricking. Plum, plus a slight funk on the nose which should blow off. On the palate, again I find plums and dark cherries. Overall, the wine seems in better balance than last year as the tannins have faded somewhat. I'm upping my rating two points and plan to drink my remaining bottles over the next three years.

There may be a lot of bottle variation at this point. The last bottle we had was pretty funky, but tonight's was fine. Pretty linear at this point but there is still some fruit and it was a smooth, easy drink. I don't plan on holding my remaining bottles very long.

Not sure what happened here. I have had this wine multiple times, but this time, I just didn't enjoy it as much. It felt "clunky", maybe its getting to the end of its drinking window? Still it had enough acid and some fruit left to make it a satisfying wine with dinner. 3 bottles left, time to drink up.

Not much to add to my previous review of this wine. Its food friendly and was a nice contrast to a 2005 Barolo that I had as the same dinner. Much lighter and more acidic than the Barolo.

Weird, bretty nose of carob, stinky dirt, vegetation, decomposition, like digging clay from a riverbed. There's some plum, chocolate and coffee in there too but the stink dominates. In the mouth, coarse, woodsy tannin, plum, dry and mostly bitter, slightly green. Softens and tastes ok with food but alone there's not a lot for me to enjoy and I'm really not getting any richness or succulence from the Merlot here, just tough, rustic Italian wine. A disappointment compared to a '99 tasted recently.

Decanted, had moderate sediment. Initial observations: Deep garnet color. A little funk on the nose (which I expect that to blow off), plus a faint hint of plum. On the palate, plums and dark cherries. Acids are OK. The tannins are too strong and are out of balance with the fruit, leaving a bitter aftertaste. Day 2: In so far as the nose, funk was gone and plums slightly more prominent. Would still like more fruit, but I guess at this age, the fruit is on the way out. In general, the wine seems a bit more balanced, and I'm going to increase the rating from 85 to 87. Probably time to drink up, but I'll decide for sure on the next bottle.

Pretty deep garnet, soft red-fruit aromas. Palate shows mulled plum and baked cherry, but with little tannin nor acidity to keep flavors in good balance. Perhaps a bit over its prime, but still very enjoyable, if a tad simple. Medium finish.

Perhaps in a dormant stage. The first time I tried this wine a few years ago I loved it. Reading the reviews this year, it appears the is trending south quickly. This bottle was good, but something was missing. It just didn't have the balance that the previous wine has. the fruit was there on the first attack but then seemed to disappear in the mid-pallate, then a decent finish. I have two left and will risk holding them for a few years to come around.

This wine needs an hour decant to open up. It changes immensely over an hour.
Deep garnet color. Cherry, blueberry, tobacco and deep red fruit on the nose. On the palate...medium bodied, raspberry, blueberry and a little heat and spice. Goes from bold fruit to a little watery to a tannic/hot finish. Needs to smooth out. Still quite tannic in my opinion and reasonably acidic. This could cellar for another few years and possibly smooth out.
All and all a really enjoyable wine if you can avoid the PnP and let it breath an hour. This will be better in 2 years.

C: Surprisingly dark, with little bricking. N: Dusty cellar, loads of leather, some oak. P: More dusty, earthy flavors, dry black cherry, leather, pronounced tannins and acidity. Medium body. F: Medium with drying, firm tannins on the back end and a classic Italian profile. While the cork in this showed running around half way, this is very good and drinking surprisingly young. Very nice. Edit: This was even better 2 days later after being in the 'fridge. Still enough dark fruit, but loads of tannic structure.
I'm getting floral notes, funk, and pencil lead with minerality, any fruit is very muted, light body, short finish. Not bad but disappointing: perhaps shouldn't have opened a bottle the day it arrived. ** Poured a glass 48 hrs later: the red fruit (cherry, strawberry) and spice notes dominated both on the nose and the palate. So maybe this wine just needed a little air.

Pop and pour. Very ripe and fruity forward style. Mix of perfume like french oak aroma, cherry, stony mineral earth on nose. Quite aromatic. The body was relatively thin and easy. Funky barnyard profile that stays with the wine. Aerated and decanted but still needs an hour before some fruit opens up. Primarily coffee and burnt toast flavors are predominant, mild vegetal notes with an austere and drying tannic finish. Full body and needs food. Complex but funk tends to hide some of the good qualities. I don't think it is ready yet.

Opaque crimson color. Serious nose of charred firewood, red rocks, rich savory aromas, a funky barnyard smell, and a slightly vegetal note. The palate on this is comparably dense and austere, and remains in the grip of very assertive tannins. There's so much potential here, but it will take another ten years in the cellar to unfold. This is a spectacular value at the $25/bottle I paid.

Very approachable, right away, even without decanting. A very nice blend, the Merlot added heft and rounded the edges of the Sangiovese without overpowering the its acidic nature. A very good, food friendly wine. Still drinking well at 9 years of age. It has a few more years left.

Menthol and strawberry on the nose; cherry, strawberry, and a bit of dark fruit on the palate, with drying tannins on the finish. I remember this as having been better a year or two ago, when the fruit stood out more and the tannins were less noticeable. Given the way it has evolved, I am not sure whether this will improve with age, or go downhill from here.
50% Sangiovese/50% Merlot blend. Had over 2 nights. Initially PnP, than drank over 3 hrs. on 1st night. Cork was 1/4 to 1/3 saturated, but intact. Structured & complex w/meaty red & dark berries, plum, spice, leather & earth. Later some herbal nuances emerged. Dry gritty tannins, which integrated well over time w/air. Good acidity, smooth yet bold & full-bodied, and a nice lingering finish.
This never lived up to the hype. Served it to my inlaws yesterday. To make it drinkable, I blended in a cheap shiraz (5 oz. per bottle). They loved it.

nose - earth, toasty oak. lots of toast here mouth - relatively full bodied, with good acidity and big big mouthcoating dry tannins. Whoa, this is actually quite a big wine. Vigorous intraoral swishing gives off deep dark berry flavors, mocha, and a hint of licorice. This wine has a lot to say however it shouts it at you, it needs some time to mellow out and integrate. At that point, perhaps in 5 or more years, it may be quite interesting. If drinking now, then suggest with food or cheese.

This is a very nice bottle. Much better than 2004 that should be a better vintage. Ruby red with garnet rim. Complex and changing nose of dark fruits, vanilla, cocoa, herbal and toasty notes. Full bodied, with young, tough but velvety tannins. Good acidity and stronger herbal notes, mint, chocolate. This is a wine still young. Next bottle to be opened in 2013

November 2010. Solid but not exceptional. Nice dark fruit well-balanced medium depth wine. Was expecting more richness. Paid $33 from WineChâteau... more appropriately a $20 a bottle of wine. Notes of dark cherry and the hint of smoke. Kind of disappointed was expecting a lot more from this wine. I guess I might have to try again.

Shortly after opening: a somewhat port-like/amarone like nose. Ripe fruit, perhaps chocolate. Not as dark on the palate, but still med-dark fruit. Rich mouth feel, maybe some leather and tobacco at the end. The tannins start out alright but are very drying on the finish
After about an hour of air: the nose and palate have actually lightened up a bit and developed a more herbal quality (maybe mint), but the tannins are still pretty rough. The 91 reflects that it went well with my tomato-based pasta (I find that tomato sauce smooths out the tannins nicely), but I definitely found it too tannic on its own right now. On the other hand, I think this has the complexity to be amazing if/when the tannins smooth out. Will leave my other 2 alone for a few years.

50% Sangiovese/50% Merlot. Rose, freshly crushed blackberry and a hint of wet earth. Full-bodied, with layers of chewy tannins and a long, long finish. Very structured. This develops wonderfully in the glass, becoming more and more rich with air. (Drink 2010-2020) -JD93

Nice black fruits aromas right after opening.
Full bodied, sweet soften tannins and vanilla.
Taste nice in a 3 hour meal.
Can be cellar for 3-5 years at least.

Sour dark fruit, tar, cheese rind. Medium bodied, nice finish. Needs food to reach its fullest potential. 50 Merlot 50 Sangiovese

Very approachable, right away, even without decanting. A very nice blend, the Merlot added heft and rounded the edges of the Sangiovese without overpowering the its acidic nature. A very good, food friendly wine. Still drinking well at 9 years of age. It has a few more years left.

Solid wine. When I first open it was quite funky. After some time that blew away and it was forest floor, tobacco. Tasty, cherry, nice acidity, smooth tannins. Would buy this again at the right price.

Cedar along with chalkiness and herbs. Full bodied, elegant, balanced with gentle tannins. Good food wine, but overpriced.

Enjoyable bottle, drank over two days. Deep red, some dirt, with brighter red fruit than I expected. Good acidity, terrific food wine.

Menthol and strawberry on the nose; cherry and dark fruit on the palate, with earth and roasted notes on the finish, and noticeable drying tannins. I think this may be starting to go downhill.

A touch green on the nose. Some dark fruit, mostly plum and blueberries. Tannins are very well-integrated at this point, and I'm not sure how much better this will get.

nose - earth, toasty oak. lots of toast here
mouth - relatively full bodied, with good acidity and big big mouthcoating dry tannins.
