85 Points

Tuesday, August 4, 2015 - Weird, bretty nose of carob, stinky dirt, vegetation, decomposition, like digging clay from a riverbed. There's some plum, chocolate and coffee in there too but the stink dominates. In the mouth, coarse, woodsy tannin, plum, dry and mostly bitter, slightly green. Softens and tastes ok with food but alone there's not a lot for me to enjoy and I'm really not getting any richness or succulence from the Merlot here, just tough, rustic Italian wine. A disappointment compared to a '99 tasted recently.
