Wednesday, October 5, 2011 - Fabulous aged dry Riesling. Nose has evolved into stony minerals and crisp tropical fruit like pineapple and mango and lemon as well. Quite sweet flavours in the mouth, although the wine is dry (as is the style of the house I believe, even for an Erstes Gewachs). Texture is chalky and there is smokiness and citrus peel bitterness to balance sweeter aromas. Complex wine that opens up like a fan in the mouth and has a finish which produces almost pain because of the minerals and is very long. Quintessential Riesling both powerful and elegant.
