90 Points

Friday, September 12, 2014 - a very good example of an aged Italian sangiovese with good pedigree. The color was red with a brownish tint, but color was consistent without a shallow center. The nose was musty, with a scent of dried mostly red fruit. The flavors were of tar, cigar box, and the fruit was fully integrated. The tannins have mellowed. The wine was very enjoyable, and think more so because Laura and I brought it to an italian restaurant to enjoy WITH food. This brings out the tertiary flavors and makes drinking older/aged wines more enjoyable for me. I think it has peaked... for some drinkers the peak was probably about 4 years ago, This is a 17 year old wine which should be opened over the next year or two and enjoyed with food and friends.
