93 Points

Monday, September 4, 2023 - ABV: 14.0%. Upon opening, there's a robust nose of roasted Mediterranean herbs mixed with savory, gamey, and meaty notes, which slowly dissipates the longer it breathes. The acid is noticeable and there's still some grip from the tannins, but there's plenty of fruit underneath. At 18-years-old, this Brunello is still very young so if you're planning to open a bottle soon, decant it for at least an hour. Otherwise, keep it in your cellar for at least another 5 years.

9/5/2023 - Raised the score by three points (from 90 to 93). 24 hours after opening, this wine has opened up and balanced out. There's a core of red fruits on the nose (think raspberries, dark cherries, red plums) surrounded by the roasted herbs. The tannins have softened and the acid is better integrated than yesterday, lifting the abundant fruit. There's a lot of potential in this wine and I'd most likely rate it even higher once it's ready to drink so I suggest keeping your bottle until the 25-year mark (2030).
