Sunday, July 14, 2013 - My fourth bottle, this one a magnum. This wine was fantastic, probably the best muscadet I've had. There was some orange and white peach fruit but the dominant aromas and flavors here were salinity, sea spray, and shore pebbles. You couldn't come closer to drinking the Atlantic ocean without putting your head underwater. Impressive depth and concentration on the palate, where the lees add substance but don't overpower the other flavors (an issue I've had with some of the more expensive Muscadet super-cuvees that see extended lees aging). I must heartily disagree with anyone who criticized the 2009 for being too ripe and soft. This has plenty of acidity and all the mineral character you could want. As you'd expect, a fantastic match with soft shell crabs. And at $16/bottle, one of the great values in the wine world.
