Saturday, November 13, 2010 - pop and pour consumed over two days. very light ruby color that suggests a relatively short maceration. everything about this wine screamed cotes du rhone, from the color to the nose to the flavors to the finish. so if that's the style dave was going for, he definitely succeeded. unfortunately, this is not my preferred style. i love what new world winemaking does with grenache, and this is definitely done in a more old world style. a good dose of smoke on the nose and finish makes me wonder about any damage to the fruit from the '08 wildfires. all that said, the wine is nicely balanced and very approachable if you're looking for old world rhone.
