Saturday, March 15, 2008 - Lots of smoked meat, red and black fruitss and some oak on the nose. While there are some nice fruit and earth flavors there, the oak overpowers most everything else. Tasting this next to the 2003 was interesting. It seems to me that they had this great product in the 03, and were trying recreate that in the weaker 2004 vintage by adding the Petit Verdot and Cab Franc as well as leaving it on oak longer (I am not sure if they did, but it tasted like it). However, this comes nowhere near the elegance of the 2003. It comes off a bit harsh and very New World, which is surprising coming from Ch Margaux.
