Tuesday, May 24, 2011 - We have several bottles of this wine in the cellar, and have been dying to try it. We finally caved and cracked one open. The nose is restrained but elegant, showing a dominant slate component as well as undertones of pineapple, honey, apples, and peaches. On the palate the wine explodes initially, with layers of juicy pineapple, apricots, and sugar cane. The mid-palate shows fantastically complex minerality, with mixing hints of saline, slate, and chalk. The wine finishes very long with lemon/lime, tart green apple, and mouth watering acidity. It is demi-sec, yet the sweetness is wonderfully balanced, more lending weight and a lush texture to the initial fruit than overt sweetness. The wine is seamless and creamy, yet lively and racy as a function of the excellent acid backbone. Overall this wine has immaculate purity of fruit, superb balance, and fantastic structure. It is enjoyable now, and we can’t wait to see where it will go with some time.
