Thursday, May 3, 2012 - Decanted for three hours before first sip. Impressive, deep hue. Very rich and deep aromas offering charcoal, crushed gravel, graphite, green briar, and very deeply fruited, with still a hint of brightness there. Wow does this smell good, and as it opens up, I begin getting some vegitables, but it's balanced with massive, soft dark red fruits. Later I get blueberry covered cacoa. Massive palate entry, and incredibly smooth and graceful; wow, what texture! Incredible texture and acid for days coupled with a pleasing mouth coating nature. Yes, there's some sweaty sock here, tart fruit, and soft, really sweet tannins begin building and definitely take over the palate, but they are so softly textured that I barely mind. The red strawberries here are intense, and they are FULL ripe, very dark red in flavor. Every sip is delicious and I just can't put my glass down. This isn't a wine that brutalizes in its youth; it's actually so delicious right now I hardly have any reason to lay them down, though there is no doubt it will age for decades. Perhaps one case to rest and one to drink now?
