Wednesday, December 30, 2015 - The ’99 Chaupin was a real showstopper. On the nose I found soaring aromatics, with fresh crushed cherry, exotic spice, sweet floral tones and forest floor, in an expression that was more like Pinot Noir than Grenache. On the palate, it was soft and enveloping but with a fresh wave of acidity that gave the sensation of weightlessness as notes of cherry pit, cranberry sauce and sweet herbs glided across the senses. The finish displayed perfectly resolved tannin with fresh fruit and inner floral tones. This wine is in a beautiful place and at a perfect state of balance.
