90 Points

Tuesday, February 26, 2013 - Had to try another one of these to see whether the one two weeks ago was just a bad bottle or not. Decanted for about an hour, and unfortunately the verdict was "no". Just like last time - rich, with lots of blackberry and sour cherry fruit - but deadly dull and simple. After half a glass, decided to slow oxidize this for 24 hours as a last resort. Voila! err, I mean Ecco lo! It's a different wine the next day. Still not particularly expressive on the nose, but it has transformed into a very respectable "modern" style Chianti. Deep and rich - now displaying a lively acidity, fine-grained tannins and a touch of oak on the long finish. Still not the 93 point wine WS (Suckling) described, but no longer the huge disappointment I originally thought it was.
