Monday, September 19, 2011 - I am going to be out of the norm on this bottling. Have purchased every CdM from Mugnier since 2003, generally in decent quantities. I own many, many Mugnier wines from multiple vintages. Was in Burgundy recently and saw this at a great wine shop in Nuits and decided to buy a 375 ML to see what this is like as I have not seen it in my local market as of yet. Not a fan. Smelled and tasted like a cross between modern Amarone and California Pinot Noir. Very, very ripe with nearly Port like qualities to it. Certainly not a mishandled bottle as the shop is beyond reproach and only a few miles from the domaine. I can see it being popular. It is deep, very rich with lots of dark fruited flavor to it. I found it ponderous, heavy and not very interesting. A 2009 Domaine de Bellene Nuits St. George village wine absolutely was the better of the 2 wines. I can't see this going anywhere amazing. I probably will pick up a couple of bottles in hopes that this was a mis-fire rather than a truly representative example. No score but THIS particular bottle I would go with something around 82.
