Saturday, December 1, 2012 - PnP. Again with cherry/red berry fruit and some Asian spice on the nose. Palate has medium weight fruit that is smooth/silky textured and gives a 'flat' interest-losing sensation at midpalate. Flavors are pleasant, a bit rich, but for me do reach confected. Lacks tension, finesse and seems low on acidity. Did not sense the mineral I noted in May. Night 2: definitely the 'flat' midpalate was replaced with a pleasing fullness allowing the very pretty PN fruit to be better appreciated. Based on this I would decant a couple hours or hold (90-91ish on 2nd night).

I would be curious to the drink window on this, what you'd think. When I had it last in 2010, I got the mineral and structure but is that softening out now?

12/1/2012 3:07:00 PM - Frank, I agree. I'm not usually this schizoid. My guess is that this wine 'crosses' between a leaner style and a bigger Cali PN, so things like mood, food, aeration (I did almost none this time) could affect. I have a half bottle left, so I'll give it another try tonight and re-post if this bottle evolves. -- Tom
