Tuesday, November 10, 2020 - Dark fruit (black cherry, blueberry, blackberry, plum), sweet herbs (basil, mint), mocha, cinnamon, clove. Was able to taste against big brother, 2017 Opus One (2020 release). Overture is always a blend of vintages, and current release (2020) is a blend of 2016 and 2017. The blend is comprised of 91% Cab Sauv., 4% Petit Verdot, 3% Merlot, 2% Cab Franc. While complex and balanced in its own right, it is smooth and structured for earlier drinking than the Opus One. The finish is long and pleasant. Overture is a lovely wine and would benefit from a few years of age or a really good decant.
