A really strong showing this weekend. Our bottle was a blend of the 2016 and 2017 vintage and was decanted for 2 hours prior to dinner. This was showing pronounced flavor intensity with a restrained ripeness of fruit more akin to a ripe left bank Bordeaux rather than Napa. Very well integrated use of new french oak which added to the flavor complexity of the wine. A medley of dark black fruit, toasted cedar, and savory spices.

Tasty with Marin French Breakfast Brie. It brought out a salted caramel flavor to the Brie and enhanced the wine. I usually enjoy this cheese with an oaked Chardonnay but found this equally good with this. Consistently good wine each time I try this.

Anticipated more. Has all the qualities on the nose, however is underwheling for the QPR. It did develop over a couple hours so I’m hoping a couple more years will do wonders. .

Nose is mellow, with lemon-chocolate and spice. Easy to drink, some spicy notes, meaningfully less complex than the other Opus wines. It's good, but the QPR is a little off here.

Historically an enjoyable second bottle from Opus, until the price went bonkers ($150+) as other posters have noted. For this reason, the QPR is low and the rating must take a hit. Deep burgundy in color, the palate is comprised of forest floor, baking spice, licorice and mellowed black fruit, ultimately finishing a bit short and lacking the nuance of other wines at this price point. With such a large departure from the flagship wine, it fits a different category, which should be reflected in the cost. Still a solid juice, but there are a plethora of other worthy options out there that punch well above their weight.
Smells great. Touches of wood and tobacco. The alcohol is present in the aroma, but doesn’t cut through the deeper flower scents that are present. Tastes quite nice. You get some dark fruits, blueberry, plum, and black cherry. Theres a hint of ripe nectarine. Silky. Round. Decent tannins. Not a long finish. This is a wine you will definitely enjoy, but you won’t brag about it as being a favorite. 90-91.

An older version (have cellared for probably 8-10 years), I was excited to try an aged multi vintage Bordeaux blend because I believe more top producers could and should be putting out multi vintage blends just like in Champagne in order to produce a great consistent product and mitigate vintage risk. I enjoyed the bottle with dark red fruit, silky mouthfeel, still tannins present and long finish but no way should this be a $150+ bottle, as maybe that is the Opus premium (I don’t think Opus is worth it for the cost either). At $150, an aged Lynch Bages would blow this away and my much cheaper Pride Napa 2014’s do as well. Still, cool to try and I enjoyed the wine but the pricing is off…

NV version but tasted recent release so I am going with 22' release. The wine delivers aromas of blackberry fruit with a tinge of green olive aroma. In mouth the wine is more black fruit with plum, blackberry, mulberry and dark cherry. Slightly flat and non dimensional. That said it is very enjoyable right now.

Not sure on this wine. Nice nose but fruit is disjointed. Really not up to its pedigree or pricetag. By day three after vacuvin this was finally showing something.

Two hour double decant. Very very deep magenta color. Anise, star fruit, persimmon, blackberry, and coconut cake. Dry palate, with good acidity. Firm, full tannins on the longish finish.
This was the version with fruit from 2017 and 2018. This was not my style. I’ll need to try a version with two good vintages.

Delicious Napa Bordeaux blend from Opus drinking at a high level now. 2-hour decant helped the wine open up nicely which paired well w/Porterhouse steaks.

Tasted at a wine tasting on a cruise ship. Fruit was muted with medium tannins. Had bandaid on the nose which I felt overwhelmed the balance of the wine. Might have been better if decanted.

Unique and extraordinary blend of grapes, soils, vineyards and vintages. Made from 95% CS, 3% Merlot, 1% CF and 1% PV, base of 2019 vintage together with 2018. Aged for 18 months in FR oak, 60% new, 40% second use, bottled in 2021, released in 2022. Deep ruby. Intense aroma of blackcurrants, cherries, blueberries, violets, chocolate, herbs. Full body, intense and concentrated with a string of restraint and elegance. Smooth polished texture, black fruit, toasted oak, herb and chocolate flavours, medium- tannins.

I’m not a fan of regular Opus so not loving this. Lots of green vegetal elements, bitter dark fruit and almost some brett. Structurally its sound with polished/fine tannins but just not exciting. Boring steakhouse wine.

15032023 - Khai’s Bday lunch celeb at Wun Nam. This Overture is a blend of 2017 & 2018 vintages
Our 2nd bottle tasted blind which i thought was a 2013 Aussie Shiraz. This is elegantly powerful. Plenty of dark fruit, cassis, vanilla, a light roast coffee beans and black pepper. I sensed some mint as well which I went with the Aussie Shiraz.
The tannins are beautifully integrated with rounded finish the coat your mouth with flavors. Plenty of layers and depth with enjoyable finish of dark fruit & warm cocoa

Decanted the wine for about 30 minutes. The wine hss been sitting in my wine refrigerator for about 4 or 5 years. The wine tasted very elegant with dark fruit, well balanced almost with a hint of spice. I wish I had another one. enjoyed it over dinner with a grilled ribeye with creamy horseradish, homemade french fries and roasted vegetables.

Released in 2022 with the blend of 2019 and 2018 vintage (more 2019). More expressive than Opus One. Aromas of green olives, red cherry, dark plum. What’s missing vs Opus One is the waves and waves of different layers of flavours submerging on the palate.

Very nice wine; the fruit was abundant, tannins well-balanced. The wine looks purple colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like strawberry jam and light toast. The body is medium. The wine has smooth texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity.

My return visit to Overture! Been at least 15 years, I recalled a nice flavorful wine that could only be bought at the winery direct for $50! Well, well, well how things have changed - and not in a good way! I found a place that sells this, apparently it's a thing now, but for a whopping $150 - what Opus itself used to cost! Nothing special here at all, took about an hour to give it's true appearance, I found it pretty regular and nothing like Opus at all. I'd say $50 is about right for this wine. Glad I opted for another Le Dome for the same price instead of a 2nd bottle on purchase. If you haven't tried Le Dome, the 2015 is tremendous for the same price.

High rating well deserved here. Really an elegant NV blend that I felt was unique. Agree with other tasting notes here. I could wait to decant long enough but drank slowly and definitely opened up more over the couple hours. I don’t think it was premature to drink it , it was excellent. Will (try) to hold my others for a while to see how it ages No promises. Oh , and I purchase ls this afternoon an opus one tasting. And while I did buy the opus one flagship , it’s overpriced in my opinion (albeit a beautiful wine ). This overture has unique tones and stands on its own at half the price although still Some where around $160 if I recall.
Really good wine. Moderate value

1st of 3 N.V. bottles recently acquired as part of a much larger cellar contents purchase with the vintages likely from the mid-'90's (accompanying Opus One bottle vintages '93 - '96). Highly recommend this Overture time period and despite the average CT price point this is now actually a very good QPR wine. Drink now not hold. Completely mature and soft - drink now not hold. Reddish purple, peripheral bricking, soft oak, tannins completely resolved, soft mouth feel, very well balanced and layered and overall quite Bordeaux like. Lovely long lingering soft aftertaste. Nose soft with initial barnyard which blew off quickly revealing dark cherry, plum, mulling spices and lilac. Primary flavors now secondary with blueberry, cedar, coffee, stone and a tobacco box finish.

A nice blend of vintage's. Decanted for 2 hour's, and still showed tannin's. This guy can be laid down for many years to come. Its my only bottle, so....... I believe its the 17 and 18 vintages combined. after the 3rd hour, ti became balanced, silky, and the big dark fruit came out. Cheers

Opus One 2nd label. 2015 / 2016 vintage blend per QR code on the bottle. 86% cab sauv, 8% merlot, 4% PV and 1% each malbec and CF. Highly recommend, one of the better wines that we have recently had. Decanted tableside ~ 20-30 minutes, ideally would add 60 minutes to that. Drinking window with proper cellaring is another decade with some further softening expected. Overall a MUCH better QPR wine then the Opus One. Light purple, peripheral bricking starting to become detectable, soft mouth feel, good texture, well balanced with softening oak & tannins and starting to integrate nicely. Medium to full bodied and with a lovely lingering aftertaste. Nose aromatic with stewed plums, black cherry, anise and a somewhat smokey finish. Flavor profile classic high end Napa cab with dark stone fruit, cassis and blueberry up front with wet stone, licorice and coffee developing folllowed by sweet tobacco on the finish.

Really nice bottle of wine but the blending of vintages makes it challenging to know when to drink this. After a one hour decant this was full of red fruit, cola, baking spice and light oak. Quite full bodied with ample tannins. Too much tannin still for my taste, suggesting I should have held on to this for another five years or so. Still very good with lots of promise.

Cherry, eucalyptus, cocoa powder. Balanced acid and tannins. Tastes like a solid highway 29 Oakville cab blend. Good quality but maybe not memorable. Poor QPR, but maybe that’s true for all Opus Ones.

Day one. Intense nose of flowers and cassis, concentrated to the point of an intense chemical smell. Still very tight. Some slight graphite over time. Orange juice. Day two. Much more graphite. Still flowers and casks. Medium tannins. Powerful Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. A 24 hour decant may be required. Score increased from 93 to 94.

Drank 5-14-22, w-Katie and Tim. Cooler, dusty, bluer, earthier than the 2013 B. Leighton. Less structured and less tannic than its older flagship sibling, and more fruit forward as well. Earthy oak, unresolved. In its prime. Tons of sediment, earthy green notes. Still has life ahead, but I'd suggest drinking soon, as well as letting sit for a few days before opening to let the sediment settle.

Found this old bottle of overture in a small town abc store in Indiana, and if I have deciphered the bottle number correctly, it was bottled in 1999. Decanted for four hours. In the glass this wine is a medium+ intensity ruby. On the nose some alcohol is still present, though blowing off over the course of decanting. Also present are juicy dark fruits, crushed stone and delicate floral notes. On the tongue ripe raspberry alongside cassis, tart cherries, white peppercorns, and crushed violets. Tannins are fine and well integrated, and acidity is balanced well with the fruit. Smooth focused mouthfeel, with medium+ to long finish. When I initially opened this bottle, the wine presented on the palate as disjointed, and I had feared it was past its prime. After four hours however, the elements came further most harmoniously. 1999 was a cooler vintage for Napa, and congruent with that, I found this Bordeaux blend to be in line more with what I expect from a French Bordeaux. Recommend drinking this within the next few years, as I feel it is on end of its prime drinking window. ~93 pts

Epic Napa Trip - Day 2: Drank at Opus winery - A nice wine that was definitely muted compared to the vintage fruit. Very well put together with notes of dark fruit, some bramble, spice and earth and a touch of oak. A wine I would definitely drink, but never purchase. 90+ points for me, and likely suffered slightly due to be drank next to vintage Opus.

Consistently mirrors the profile of Opus...superlative Napa Bordeaux blend. Just wish it was still $50 :)
NOTE: I purchased the bottle in '15. I do not know what that informs as to the vintage of the fruit, but the bottle lists the following varietals and maturation ('12 ?): Cab Sauv, Cab Franc, Petite Verdot & Malbec. Aged for 18 months in French Oak with an additional 18 months in bottle.

Second Sunday Group: 1990 Burgundies (Neil's): Decanted about three hours before going back into bottle before leaving for the tasting. It had been about six hours from the time the cork was pulled to being served with dinner. This bottle was a blend of the 2016 and 2017 vintages, comprised 91% cab sauv, 4% petit verdot, 3% merlot & 2% cab franc. Aromas of cassis, black currant, violets and cherry. Very pretty and refined, bordering on elegant. Full-bodied and clearly young, but well-balanced, showing black fruit and violet liqueur qualities. Lingering finish with black fruit and barrel spice elements. 92-93+ pts.

I was very impressed with this 12-13 overture. In fact, I don't find it to be far different from the flagship cuvee. I think this is just on the cusp of primary drinking window, but certainly a lot of the primary energy has loosened up a bit. I think my only knock was the alcohol was a touch high and was the only component that kind of took it out of balance. A very tasty effort nonetheless.
I completely agree with Badgerchemist. Opus One Overture used to be an amazing second wine. I used to love Opus One Overture. It really did represent the essence of Opus One with those amazing To Kalon grapes; not anymore. This rendition of Opus One Overture is very mediocre, very generic, pedestrian, nothing special. It's not bad, but it is not good enough to represent Opus One. There is no depth, no complexity, no intensity and no terroir. It does not even remotely resemble Opus One. I have had wine that I've paid $25/bottle that tastes better than this bottle of Opus One Overture. What a disappointment! What a rip off! It makes me sad. I wonder if they are sourcing grapes for Overture from lesser vineyards?

thoroughly enjoyed my last bottle of Overture. Had 2 cases of various "vintages," which as we know Opus doesn't have but bought over a number of years 200 to 2010. It's NUTTY expensive now that they've gone full retail.

Hanging decanter, one hour. Smoke, cassis, vanilla, floral nose. Ruby in the glass, violet. Lighter and fresher than the cabs I have recently tried. Blackberry (big) in the mouth, dry oak, vanilla again. Spiky, dry finish.

I've had several bottles of this recently and been entirely unimpressed by all of them. ~3-4 years ago, I found this wine to be exceptionally enjoyable, especially with the QPR. This is no longer true-it lacks depth, grace, and much of anything interesting. 60 minutes in a decanter mellows out its many rough edges and makes for a perfectly easy drink. Open it with friends and family that won't know it from something better.

So I’ve had a variety of experiences with the many bottles I’ve bought of this, mostly good, one not so much.
Red and light purple Nose: lush, light cherry, gravel, tar, cedar, leather, licorice, mixed berries, sweet spring flowers, pencil lead,
Lighter body, pretty good grainy tannins, mocha, dark chocolate, cacao, bright cherry, red fruits. Everything is well balanced here, it’s a really good wine that probably gets a bad rap unnecessarily.

An excellent example of California red, full but not overblown. Caramelized black fruit on the nose accented with vanilla and anisette. Very smooth mouthfeel, viscous but not syrupy. The expected blackcurrant dominance. Good balance between acidity, fruit, and tannic structure. A pleasant finish with grape lees and a woody dryness.

(Decanter via Wine.com) Overture is a blend this year of the 2014, 2015 and 2016 vintages, with a dominance of 2016. This is supple with clear ripe berry fruits, generous and fully ripe, tempered by white pepper spice and smoked cedar notes. It has a gentle but confident tannic frame and mouthwatering lift on the finish. This is focused and ready to drink and impresses with its rippling silk texture. Drinking Window 2020 - 2030

Dark fruit (black cherry, blueberry, blackberry, plum), sweet herbs (basil, mint), mocha, cinnamon, clove. Was able to taste against big brother, 2017 Opus One (2020 release). Overture is always a blend of vintages, and current release (2020) is a blend of 2016 and 2017. The blend is comprised of 91% Cab Sauv., 4% Petit Verdot, 3% Merlot, 2% Cab Franc. While complex and balanced in its own right, it is smooth and structured for earlier drinking than the Opus One. The finish is long and pleasant. Overture is a lovely wine and would benefit from a few years of age or a really good decant.

Second Sunday Group: 2010 Bordeaux (aka Bal Masqué) (R&D's): Dark color, with a refined bouquet of cassis, currants, vanilla and floral perfume. Well-balanced, with fine tannins and flavors of black fruit. Silky and seamless. Coming back to it later in the evening, it's developed aromas of cedar and violet and retains the dark fruit profile. Elegant. Very impressive. I believe this was a blend of the '16 and '17 vintages. (9AD6-B83E)(BH)

Alright last bottle I f’d up on the food pairing...I let it open for an 1:00-30 and it is still a little tight but I can tell its significantly improving as it opens, so here we go:
It’s a bit lighter than I expected and slightly transparent with a light purple center and red edges.
Nose: truly a bouquet, if this was made into a candle I’d gladly buy a dozen and I hate candles. Black cherry (raspberry & blackberry), baking spices, herbal green bell pepper, and strong graphite. A little bit of clove, cedar, mint leaf, anise, and a sweet cigar box round out the nose. I really love the smell of wine so forgive the long winded description.
Nice light-medium milky body, exceptionally smooth with a good acidity on the palate, acid turns into a bit of a toasted spice in the finish. Luscious red fruits are an effective primary, minerality, herbal greens, sweet flavored cigar smoke and good alcohol follow. Young red fruits and acidity tend to dominate, especially in the finish, initial palate sugar kind of counteracts the slightly tart red fruit. It is definitely dry and tannins grip you subtly, I think it will still improve quite a bit with age and could see the peak being great here.
I like when the nose matches the palate and you get that with this, it is a really good wine that I enjoy a lot but it doesn’t blow me away. 91.5

All CT users..... how do you find the year on this wine ? I cannot find it on the label front or back. I have tasted the 12' and reported but never questioned the year. I was handed a bottle tonight and cannot find the year logo. Is it on the cork ?
NV, but purchased new in May 2020, so I am classifying this as a "2017" vintage.
Sweet vanilla nose, delicious dark fruit that possessed a wonderful balance of firm tannins and acidity. Opened up to something very special within 30 minutes after opening, leaving us wondering how it might have evolved had there been more. So good was this wine, and so equivalent to its big brother it appears, buying more in the 120.00 range seems a very smart buy. If you can, waiting a few years before drinking will offer great dividends. 95+

OK, we opened this too early but still was a nice wine. Fresh, ripe, red, cherry, raspberry, boysenberry, on the palate. A bit of spice and oak on a medium finish. Medium bodied. The problem is that as good as this is, it paled in comparison to the 2005 Freemark Abbey Sycamore we opened the night with. I have tasted very nice bottles of this but in comparison, there is better out there for the price.

Bought in 2011, probably 2008 vintage. Very rich and still drinking young. Red fruited with a richness. Quick burst of flavor that tapers off pretty quickly. A little more acid than ideal. Not sure what this will do over time. Probably should drink sooner rather than later.

great aged new world Bordeaux. Strong on cab, not too much merlot sticking out. This is how I would imagine aged Bordeaux to taste like. I need to have with a bordeux next time. Definitely did not feel the fruit forward ca style especially as it had been aged for 8-12 years. Likely 9 to 10. Lovely, integrated dark fruit and woody earth. Merlot didn't stick out and cab was not as fruit forward.

This is a decent wine, but I was expecting more from the Opus One brand and for $130. The wine is full bodied with medium tannins. It also has a good amount of minerality. Would I drop another $130 for this? No. Was it worth trying if I had never tried it before? Yes. But for $130, you can buy wines that are much better than this.

A combination of the 2014 and the 2015 vintages. 91% Cabernet Sauvignon, with the other 4 Bordeaux grapes sprinkled in. Very good wine, as expected from the price. Black fruits are prominent on the nose as well as some oak. On the palate is where the wine really shines, exceptional flavor as well as structure. Lots of fruit flavors, bursting with typical Cabernet flavors. The structure is well balanced and very big, high acid, high tannin, high alcohol, but not in an overbearing way. Overall a little simple for the price, but what it does bring is exceptional.

Opus One (SWS): According to the taster, this was 95% 2016. On the nose it's fresher/juicier than the Opus One. Cassis, with a hint of cabernet character from pyrazines. Floral/rosewater--with the caramel sweetness from the oak it's like turkish delight.
Medium tannins but not enough acid for mu tastes. Less hefty on the palate than the Opus One, without the fruit attack. Cassis/eucalyptus/mint/herbs. Medium plus alcohol. I bet this would have been really really impressive if I didn't drink it right after a flight of the other vintages of Opus One.

Big wine, needed 2+ hours to open, maybe more. On pnp oak overpowered, but opened up to big fruit, vanilla, mint, oak. As it opened the wine got sweeter. Not really my flavor profile, wished this Bordeaux blend was a little sharper instead of so big and oaky, but also clear it’s a well made wine.

Another star of the Mavens tasting. I have never had opportunity to taste any Opus One, so this was interesting. I cannot add additional knowledge to the dozens of TNs already entered here; surprisingly accessible and, if not soft, then not puckeringly intense, yet with multitudes of content and well balanced.

Supposedly mainly C.S. from 2 or 3 vintages, bottled in August ’16;
N: Attractive SMOKE, almost bacon fat, with notes of toast atop ripe berries
P: Med body; NICE, almost swtish frt met by an astringent pucker which stays in touch with the init frt as it fairly seamlessly evolves into a very LONG, elegantly BALANCED finish with an alluring tangy/swtness to the fairly innocuous, yet firming, dusty tannins. Very, VERY nicely done for now & (safely) through '23. 14.5% ABV; My EXC/EXC+. 95 pts The Wine Front (Gary Walsh), 93 pts Decanter (Rose), and 16 (9/1/16) & 16.5/20 (8/17/18) Jancis Robinson. Blend of '15 and '16. Gina thinks it shoes more progression on the palate. Funny. That smells really complex and tastes like it too. Apparently this is first second and third press. This is not champagne. They "only" do three pressings now. Round fruit. Savory. Right there actually.

This is just about the perfect red wine for someone with acid reflux that likes Cabernet. This wine has low acid and is smooth as silk. Medium body with wonderful but light tannins that are subtle but noticeable. This is a crowd pleaser as its easy to drink but it is very very good. I have tried three releases and thoroughly enjoyed them all. Cheers. It does have a little sediment but not a big deal. My 2nd bottle wasn't as good as the first but still very good

Pop and pour. Ready to go right away. A cornucopia of delicious Napa flavors, more like a fruit salad than a gourmet dish, but full bodied and wonderful.

This full-bodied Opus One second wine is a cornucopia of flavors, a blend of varietals across different vintages. If you don't mind drinking from a fire hose it's full of deliciousness if a bit unfocused. Very full bodied and mouth-filling with good tannins.

Balanced wine with moderate to strong fruit, some exotic. We served it as the 2nd wine to finish a bold flavored menu and it handled the position well. Stone fruits with some earthy tones and a strong finish define this wine.

Monthly Men's Wine Dinner (Purple Cafe, Bellevue, WA): Decanted and served. These are non-vintage wines and it oddly showed some secondary notes at first, then settled down to a beautiful, thick-bodied Cabernet showing some volcanic earth, cassis, and licorice on the palate. Chewy tannins and delicious. My #2 of 4 and the group's #4 in a very close competition.

I've been wanting to try this for some time and finally had a chance at a The Print Works restaurant in Greensboro, NC. This is a NV wine, but I am posting under 2018 since I assume this is the latest blend. We popped and poured, leaving it to breathe for about 30 minutes. The wine is sophisticated, with pleasant layers of dark fruit, leather, and earth. The tannins are smooth and well integrated. There is enough acidity to make it food friendly. It's really a lovely wine. But here's the rub -- I can think of a dozen wines that I like just as well or better for less than half the price. Bottom line: I enjoyed it, I'm glad I tried it, but I probably won't be buying it again.

This afternoon/evening was our first of two baby showers. Not only were we surrounded by friends & family, but we were also surrounded by some good wine & other drinks. . Pretty solid blend. Nice depth and structure, plenty of brooding dark fruit, menthol, and leather.

During a Calif CabSav tasting. This was interesting, even though the alc. was 14.5% here as well. Lots of black fruit but also pine, forest and licorice. The palate is polished and not overdone. Stays reasonably fresh, good length. Young, wait till 2023 for this. 93-94

Dark purple in colour. Notes of cassis, vanilla, and dark chocolate on nose and palate. Dry, med body, elegant tannins, nice acidity. Overall a very nice wine. First time I had tried, but will definitely seek out again.

As expect this was good from first sip to last drop. Decanted one hour and I think that is correct at this time. Balance is good now , feel like the structure, acid and tannins are at a good spot right now so maybe nothing more to get out of more time in the cellar?? Good solid Napa Cab, bit only memorable because of the hype.

Private Tasting (w East Coast Opus rep)...This wine is a combination of 3 different vintages of lots not used in the Opus One bottling. Quite good and different at 91% cab vs the Opus One with a usual 79%+ cab; yet each still have the 5 Bordeaux grapes utilized in the ratio. Fruity, flavorful, ready to go now with punch and finesse paired so well in Opus elegance, bigger upfront wine less complex than the regular bottling, but not at any negativity when comparing and the price-points of each make sense for they are different wines. Wish the price was better as it was real good and could drink this much with pleasure.

Its a multi-vintage. Good smelling glass. Smells clean without detergent.
Overture has been made since 1993 and was only marketed at the winery.
Michael Salachi is the wine maker (sp?) and he's been making wine for over 30 years. Trained in Davis and Bordeaux. Hired here in 2001 and took over the program in 2003. And I guess they went through a substantial amount of replanting. About 1/3 is biodynamic. THey harvest only first growth fruit, and they use an optical sorter as well. They do three pressings. 30 years ago they did 6 pressing. But most of this wasn't used anyway. Around '93 is when they stopped blending this away and it became a gift to the employees. And I guess this is what became Overture. So now its about 10% of the three pressings and blended together, usually the previous three vintages. Stored in stainless steel after the oak treatment. The very small number on the back 8-8-16 on this bottle - is when it was bottled. Which would meaning this would 14-13-12 vintages. Its all five grapes and almost always 80-95% Cabernet. ANd there isn't much of it.
This smells allot like wood. Chocolate chips. Baked chocolate. I am being told its slightly more rustic than Opus One, and doesn't age as well. Maybe 6-8 years I am being told. And rich on the palate, rounded, long, mineral, and still hangs onto with the wood.
On nose : pronounced intensity, red fruit: ripe cherry, black fruit : cherry, plum, fairly good and heavy used of oak, sweet vanilla, smokiness, lichorice, tobacco, anise spiciness, as it went after 2 hrs, it turned to mint and graphite. It has a very complex aroma.
On palate : pronounced flavour intensity, high acidity, high chewable tannin, medium+ alcohol, fruitiness could be found in the front palate, herbs and woodiness on med palate, medium+ body and spiciness and savoury aftertaste, long finishing.
This wine seems having all the things u need separately but lack of integration. U just feel that all elements in the wine is scattering inside yr mouth but not in tune. Maybe the wine is too young. I would say this wine is not that supremely good as the name is. Not as robust as new world American and meanwhile, not as elegant as Bordeaux either. In this price, I would try some excellent new world instead.

Deep ruby red. Layered nose with forest floor, dark cocoa, anise, earthiness and some woody notes. Medium tannins (6.5/10) and medium plus body. Woody palate with dark fruits, a touch of minerality and some tobacco leaves. Medium plus finish. Drink till 2024.

Smells and tastes like a winery. Vanilla. Ripe. A touch of Caymus. Strawberry. Cinnamon. Nutmeg. Herbs. Sweet then savory. Definitely fruit, herbs, and salt, in that order. Intense. Very long, subtle grape popsicle finish. Tobacco. This was a gift and I do not understand the NV marketing tack. Day two: even sweeter; similar to Lamborn. Worth the money?

The only problem I had with this bottle is that there wasn’t enough!
Wow for the price point I was pleased it exceeded my expectations. It was wonderful and delicious and gave you a mouthful. We left this in the bottle uncorked for about an hour and then allowed it to open in our glasses. Wonderful nose and just spectacular.
Drank this with filet mignon, braised mushrooms and smashed potatoes.

The nose was zesty with spiced cherry, cinnamon, tobacco, hints of undergrowth and sweet herbs. On the palate I found an intense mix of red and black fruits with vibrant acidity and penetrating spice notes. It finished fresh, yet with saturating red fruits, hints of tobacco and lingering fine tannin.

Dark cherry with ruby rim and lots of tears; nose of cardamom, red cherry compote, raspberry, strawberry and a touch of alcohol; palate of ripe cherry, leather, creme fraiche and new soil; silky, fine tannins and a 2% milk mouthfeel; long finish that grows darker with hints of tar and vanilla; a little closed, but still would drink well with steak; will be better in 2 to 3 years

Deep garnet in the glass, expressive black fruits, cherry, berries, cassis, vanilla toasted spice notes, hint of violet and a long finish. Delicious. For our palates, bore enjoyable than Opus One but still a terrible QPR outside of Napa.

Really, really good and exceeds my expectations. This is a great blend of both old and new world. Wonderful fruit concentration, blackberry, cassis, and a lovely sweetness on the finish. Now layer in the old world components of tobacco, green pepper, eucalyptus, and herb and you have a nice combination. Drinking well straight out of bottle and very approachable. I would never pay this much for this wine, but as a gift, one cannot complain. I would easily pay $70-80 for it, however.

A private tasting and dinner at a friend's (Amsterdam, NL): Tasting, brief note. This is the 2016 release, built around the outstanding 2013 vintage. It is a very elegant, harmonious wine, with delightful, ripe Cabernet fruit, and great drinkability even at this young age.

Wonderful balance. Aromas are bright red fruit, pungent cinnamon spice with underling toast, coffee beans and a certain stalky greenness. Really good in the mouth as well, not too heavy, well defined acidity and solid body. Alcohol is perfectly integrated and does not really seem 14.5%. You could drink a bottle of this one and still ask for more. Toast and coffee beans come back in the aftertaste, persisting delicately for some time.
Fading color with some bricking at the edge. Nose of leather and cedar with a hint of cassis, very Bordeaux like. Palate has a silky mouthfeel with nice red fruit overtones and mineral it's showing through with strong tannins still but well integrated. The finish shows a nice limestone with a hit of sharpness and lingers for 15 seconds. Continued to develop in the glass over several hours. Drinking really nicely now for those who like aged Bordeaux.

At a restaurant, so no decant, drank over two hours. This holds up well as a 2nd label, drinking as a pretty mature wine. A little chocolate on the palate.

Young vines from Opus vineyards. Meant to drink now and hold your Opus. Dark rich Cabernet, slight eucalyptus note. Could use a few more years in bottle to mellow out the tannin.

At the club lunch after a day of golf. They decanted the bottles for us.. Fruit on the nose. The palate was dark berries, plums, red meat, tobacco with a hint of mocha on the finish. I actually enjoyed this wine more than some of the Opus Ones I have tasted.

Bottle bought in 2008. Decanted for one hour: berry nose with cedar wood. Nice and very smooth on the palate with scents of dark cherry and licorice. If I wouldn't know I would guess it's a top rated Pomerol! Very long and softening finish....just great!

This wine is definitely getting to be over the hill. The nose is fantastic but it fails to deliver on the palate. There is no structure left to it. Not expecting miracles from a second label from a CA producer, but it was disappointing.

Smells like a barrell sample. Simple ripe blackcurrent nose with plenty of toasty oak. In the mouth it is medium to light bodied and feels and tastes like drinking alcohol Ribena. This represents a terrible value to quality ratio. I have taste better wines for $20/bt! Don't waste your money by paying highly for the "brand" and consider what they have actually put in the bottle.
Im sitting here at the Beverly Wilshire in LA and realising this is my 300th CT review. So I chose Opus Overture.
The texture is lovelly like a velvet duvet enveloping your tongue. But the blend lacks harmony akin to awkwardly wriggling bodies in an ill orchastrated orgy.

My first time with this wine, and I just didn't get it. Gave it an hour of slow ox and checked it out - it was an oaky mess. Dumped into decanter and revisited an hour later after enjoying some lovely 2010 Brunello. This never came around for me. Fruit was hidden behind a wall of oak. I will say, others liked it pretty well, but for me this was not a good experience.

Fair amount of bricking at the edges with a reddish purple core. Super jammy huckleberry, blueberries, black currants, and plums on the nose upon opening which gave way to warm chocolate and vanilla notes and a hint of earthy dusty coffee. Tannins are fully integrated at this point and there is just a bit of acidity left in it as well. Expressive mid-palate and a medium plus finish make this a pretty damn good second wine although I'm not sure I see great QPR here at this price. Very enjoyable nonetheless!

Popped and poured over an un-contemplative Sunday familes gathering lunch. Hard to take this wine seriously when the winery doesn't ascribe a vintage to it or even put a note on the label that is a blend of vintages. They are missing a marketing trick here because they could make an allusion to Krug NV vs Vintage. Whatever.....young in appearance (it was bought from the winery a couple of months ago), very approachable, belly-filling ripe fruited and well made Napa Cab that is very steak-friendly but a bit heady at 14% alcohol. Not worth the entry price.
NV wines are stupid. At least give me a "bottled on" date, if not some idea of the vintage blend. This was purchased within the last month. No idea how long it sat in the refridgerated high-end wine room at trusted local wine shop. PnP. Probably the most Bordeaux-like American wine I've ever had. Great red/black fruit, espresso, a touch of herb on the long backside. Some power and persistence here. Nice, and priced realistically by Bordeaux/Napa standards. 91-92
Supposedly this release of Overture is a blend of 2010, 2011 and 2012. There is no actual vintage designation on either the label or cork, and no UPC. A (neo)classic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Malbec that's surprisingly approachable as a pop-and-pour, medium-full-bodied and with round, soft tannins, a plummy mouthfeel, and notes of red and bitter cherries. With time, graphite notes move in on the nose, while the palate gains in complexity as well. It seems like the fruit was optimally picked, ripe enough while never crossing into overripe territory. The 14.5% alcohol is seamlessly integrated. A wine that's crowd-pleasing, food-friendly, and terribly quaffable. Not sure aging will benefit these bottlings, and they're oh so tasty right now...

The hit of the evening. Full of deep, dark, black and blue fruits. Huge mouthfeel with a long, lingering, herbal finish. The best characteristic is the approachability. No need to wait 20 years as is required with big brother Opus One.

Had at CBCC alongside an Altamura 2012 Cabernet. This was a wonderful wine but a little closed which required that we request a decanter. After about 30 minutes it did help but the tannins were everpresent and covered much of the fruit. I recommend visiting this wine after a couple of years as it is built for age

Overall not so complex or unique, nothing to get too excited about, but has a silky texture, and is delicious. Steakhouse wine...drinks well now. A crowd pleaser and good gift wine for the non connoisseur. *not sure the vintage

After about 90 minutes, this really opened to reveal tobacco, blackberry, blueberry, coffee liquor, and mineral. Med+ body and finish. Because this is NV, I've written the guesstimated year (2007) when I purchased these a few years ago. It's possible this is from 2008 as it does have some commonness with the '08 Opus. In all, solid for a 2nd label.

This is NV, but I'm pretty sure it's from '06. At any rate, reminds me of the complexity but not the depth of the parent label in '06 - my favorite year for Opus in recent memory. Did not expect to age this well. I don't give out high scores very easily, but this surprised me. Red/Blue fruit, tobacco, earth, touch of oak, anise, holiday spice, black fruit on the finish. Enjoyed. Wish I had purchased more from that year. W/ grilled skirt steak and lamb chops.

Nice green and coconut notes faded with air, eventually leaving very pure fruit, slightly confected, light oak and roasted coffee. Superbly smooth for its 14.5% abv. Drink now. Better than many Opus One's I've tasted. This winery is truly stupid and arrogant to omit identifying label information, giving their customer no way to track bottles. This was a blend of unknown vintages and varieties, probably bottled between 2010 and 2012. DKD brought to Truluck's.

Deep garnet in the glass, approaching indigo in color. Explodes with fruit and floral aromas upon opening. Tasted out of the bottle initially and found complex, dark fruit, plum, cassis, dark cherry and cola on the palate. Decanted and drank the remainder over 90 minutes. As this opened, it began to reveal more complex layers of oak, cedar and espresso. Balanced tannins, huge mouth fill and a long lingering finish. A delicious find "off list" at Eddie Merlot's restaurant.

For the money (approx. $90 per bottle + shipping), this was easily the best wine I tasted while visiting Napa Valley. In fact, I did not taste anything else (including wines costing much more) that was as good as this. Dark, rich, excellent deep nose, smooth, lingering aftertaste of licorice.

Grade EX. Decanted for 1 hour. Deep ruby-garnet. Rather un-happening on the nose with muted black fruit, some licorice, cherry notes and some funk. On the palate, great mouth feel, very focused fruit with ripe blackberries and cassis, well integrated, silky tannins, good structure with nice grip and well-balanced acidity, some bitter fruit on the long and dry finish. Very refined and elegant and very left-bank Bordeaux in style. Worth keeping longer.

Medium red color with an unique nose. The nose has cedar and jammy notes with some licorice and something I can not quite place. Super smooth and round with raspberries and a hint of licorice on the finish. No bite at all. This Bordeaux blend contains cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot, petit verdot and malbec. Not sure of the vintage, but have had the bottle more than 5 years.

Very solid "second" wine. I sure miss the days when you could buy this juice for $39...(and the FED says there's no inflation).
Dark ruby to the rim. The nose is dark fruit, cedar and new cigar box. On the palate, earthy currant, chocolate and leathery spice. A little angular still (as expected) but I couldn't resist opening one. Will hold the others for 5+ years.

CV'd a glass tonight....a NV wine..but mainly 1997 fruit with some 98......starts off with a mushroom farm, leather, anise, currants.....as it opens, it loses some of that sous bois, and gains more cedar spice, black cherries, smoke....very youthful, plenty of lively cherry skin acidity and cedar spiced tannin....dried florals, not totally silky smooth, but more towards the Bord style than Cali...super integration of the earth, leather, and spice...well made, and holding strong. Would drink this all day long!

Whiffs of blueberries and other mellow dark fruits-the palate follows with supple texture and mellow tannins. Multi-vintage with all five claret varieties, the second label of Opus and a wine clearly meant for earlier consumption than Opus One. A nice effort to produce a Bordeaux cousin in Napa with a group quite qualified to do so. Only ordered from the winery and I will place another order soon. JM

Best decanted one hour when a wave of smooth, drying tannins balanced the Cali fruit perfectly after sitting in glass 15 minutes. Too bad the wine smoothed out, but drank well for awhile with steaks, then became slightly unbalanced with more alcohol showing.

very different from any other overture I've had in the past. Actually thought the first bottle had gone bad or something--overwhelming saddleleather nose and taste. Would have sworn was a CDP. Was still drinking well, surprised how well it stood up after decanting, even after 2 hours - did not fade but flavors and spices were still present. Glad I opened it now, mind you, but don't need to rush just yet. No tannins, definitely ready to drink and enjoy. While it's been a long while since I had an Opus, my taste memory was revived by the Overture. So wished I had more, but just the one bottle and this was my first time tasting it. Had it at dinner at Gary Danko's with guests. Offered Sommelier a taste and she said - "Of course black cherry / current notes, still bold with spice on the finish". I got eucalyptus on the nose. Paired with beef, pork and the chocolate moose was divine. Best value for money in my book. We agreed not as strong as an Opus One but still in family.

I picked a few bottles up this week while I was in Napa, so I am guessing this is from 2007? We decanted it for an hour. It had a light purple color, a bit lighter than Opus One. Black cherry and currant on the nose. Light tannins, decent balance, earthy with a little spice. Not really sure it was worth $70 considering what I could buy for the same price.

Got a six pack of this in the original allocation. Just had the 3rd bottle. Man, this is still one sexy lady. Great clarity and color. Old world nose with a little cellar must. This bottle is a current release just bought at the vineyard a couple of weeks ago. Decanted for about 90 minutes before tasting. We also had a bottle that was bought 12 years ago. Comparing with the more mature bottle made this current release taste overly tight. Even after a while in the glass, the wine was still too tight for our taste. If the older bottle is any indication, this wine will be outstanding in a few years.

Deep purple color and a nose of mixed dark red fruit. Bought from the winery 2 months ago. Decanted then stoppered 1 hour. Initial taste of very big fruit -- blackberries, black cherries, plum -- with some spice, leather and just a hint of earth all delivered in an elegant, silky package. Unlike some of these reviews, the fruit was largely open after the decant and did not continue to evolve over the hour of the meal ,and there was no excess alcohol evident. Served with roast tenderloin. Tannins were medium. Lovely finish.

Nice wine, nothing mind-blowing but well made. Paired well with rack of lamb. Open 30 minutes prior to main drinking.
Color: Dark Garnet core with Ruby edges
Nose & Palate: Creme de cassis and black currant aromas lead to similar flavors plus some herbal sage and spice. Wonderfully smooth fine grained tannins lead to a great finish. More old school Napa and Bordeuax-like than most modern version of Napa Cabernet. It reminds me a bit of Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Fay, maybe a touch more fruit and not as savvy with the tannins. The finish was nice but could be longer though as some sips fell a little short on the back end. Still very enjoyable.

Really a good yet young bdx blend, second label from Opus One, enjoyed last night at a wine tasting at our house following an Asian dinner with CT wine buddy neighborbill and spouses. Definitely recommend this wine but it is too expensive to be a reasonable QPR. Good cellaring potential for at least another 3-5 years. Supple, elegant, well balanced, medium mouth feel and great soft aftertaste. Tight out of the bottle, opened up beautifully with a four hour decant. Great enticing nose with well balanced oak and floral tones, well balanced primary flavors included some terroir, oak, hints of black pepper and smoke, dark fruit and development of some mocha and herbs.

This non-vintage Opus is from a blend of 1999 and 2000 juice. While not nearly as good as a previous bottle we’ve had of 1996/1997 a few years back, this is still decent, especially with a meal. Initially, it is fairly compact on the nose, opening up only slowly to reveal more substantial aromas of bridle leather, tobacco leaf, dried cranberries, black raspberry and milk chocolate that give it a quiet, refined character. It is much the same in the mouth—coming across as a gentlemanly wine. The entry feels a bit thin and bitter-edged, with crisp red fruit and a crunchy character through the mid-palate—featuring pretty flavors of tangy cranberry, black cherry and powdered chocolate. After about an hour the fruit starts to fill in a bit and make the pretty character a bit more significant, even though it never really turns the corner on serious depth. The finish turns decidedly more herbal, with a menthol and dry-aged oak graininess that I could live without. Still, the whole manages to be more than the sum of these parts, and while nothing special, it manages still to deliver a fine level of surface pleasure in a calm and quiet fashion.

Boy, this was really terrific. Shared with friends and as it opened up it just got even better. I would guess this bottle was around 4 years old. It had a terrific balance and velvety smoothness. The age definitely helped soften it out. A deep plum color, a little on the bigger side, and very nice finish.

Beautifully integrated tannins and a round fruity mouthfeel without being overly cloying like many Napa cabs/blends. Perfect balance yet still showing clarity and nuance.

Delicious, wish I noted my year of purchase. I know I've had it for at least four or five years. Very nicely balanced, medium to big body. Nice cedar and "band aid" aroma, nicely reminiscent of some midlife Bordeaux. Hard to believe it will get better.

Had the Opus little brother. Definitely not Opus but I think Overture is a better value for 45 bucks than Opus is for 150. The color of this wine was constant with Opus but a little thinner. The nose was a little more like a Bordeaux with light fruits. This wine did come off like a little industrial though. It needed to open up a little and i would not open and pour. After about 30 minutes it opened up a little and was a constant cab. Little hot on the tannins. The wine was a little metallic and not real strong on the fruit. Had some veggies and some light tobacco. This wine is good and much better than an everyday wine but I would be hesitant to have too many bottles at 45 bucks. Try it out for the experience but don't load up on it.

bordeaux-rutherford fusion. slightly burned and carbon flavors intrude on base of rich rutherford cab fruit highlighted with earthy merlot and probably some cab franc. balanced tannin for a big wine (but coarser and less refined than the opus one which is hard to not compare this to). A archetypal representation of rutherford cab, but with definite old world bordeaux winemaking and lower brix fruit influences.

This was our second bottle from the same vintage purchased at the same time directly from Opus One, so one would expect the same wine, yet it was different from the first bottle we opened. This bottle was very bright and loaded with spice and red berry. The nose was subtle at best, and the finish was longer and more pronounced with hints of tobacco. The color was even a bit different, more of a claret than the deep plum than the previous bottle we had tasted. This bottle was less viscuous than the first one we tried, and it seemed to hold a higher concentration of merlot. A decent value at $50. It should improve with another year or two in the bottle. Too bad Opus One doesn't add a release or vintage date to the bottle.

This wine is opening up and still improving over the last tasting. The color is a shimmering, deep garnet. The nose is fairly open with scents of Lilac, Roses and dark cherry fruit with a hint of vanillin. The taste is very concentrated and mostly balanced with flavors of chewy red and black cherries, cassis, cherry pie and ripe plum. This wine is a great value and tastes right up there with its more famous brother.

This was simply the best value for the money of all the wines we tasted. This included Quintessa, Copolla, Mondavi, Phelps, Grgich and several smaller. There were a few that were slightly better but 3 to 4 times the price.

NV from the 03/04 vintages: taste of merlot, cab franc in the blend: flabby, plummy, rich: off balance mix of a new world right bank. Still a great value but not the jr opus1 of last yearś overture.

Good nose with raisin and dark berry in the mouth. Smooth tannins and a slightly earthy, dusty although short finish that fits well with the overall product. For the price ($50) it's a nice, although less predicatble bottle of wine.

Very nice wine. Varietals include Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. Aged 18 months in French oak and another 18 months in the bottle prior to release. Took a long time to open up (2 hrs. in decanter, plus 30-45 minutes in glass), but it is nicely balanced and ready to drink. Quite bright; very little wood; much lighter on the nose and palate than its big brother. Notes of plum, cherry, raisins. I don't detect earthy notes or tobacco and leather, as others have noticed. It strikes me as pure fruit. Short finish. The wrong food pairing could overwhelm this wine. Be careful.

Black cherry color, somewhat glass-coating which augurs lots of alcohol. Nose of tobacco. Earthy, leathery with soft tannins. I found this a full flavored drink with a soft (medium long) finish. Teriffic. I like this better then Opus 1.

The wine was ok...a bit too heavy on the tannins initially and after decanting. It was very similar to a Merlot in its bouquet and taste on the palette. It finished with a slightly tart after taste.

Black cherry color, somewhat glass-coating which augurs lots of alcohol. Nose of tobacco, spicebox, and wod. Very muted flavors centered around grilled meat, with mostly resolved tannins and prominent alcohol that did blow off with time. A bit thin, but pleasant and fairly elegant, lacking depth and complexity. Purchased around 1999.

Wow, what a difference from the bottle we had last week. This bottle had very bright cherry and plum flavors and a little more weight than the last bottle we had. This was also a recent shipment from the winery, so I would think that it would be a blend of recent vintages also, but definately a different blend. I haven't had a bottle of Overture yet that I haven't enjoyed, but I never know what to expect.

2007 Passport to Woodinville weekend; 3/31/2007-4/1/2007 (Woodinville, WA): I do not know when this was bottled, but it was sold by the winery late in 2006. Nice dark ruby color. Nose of currants and some plums. Flavors were consistent with the nose, but added some minerality. Medium bodied wine with a nice mouthfeel and finish. This is always a fun bottle to drink, and a pretty decent value considering that it's juice that just didn't make it into Opus One.

Very good value second wine from Opus. Consistent with last two bottles. We bought this around 6 years ago and it should be drunk up by year's end. I really wish higher quality non-vintage wines would put a bottling date on them-so you really knew how old the finished product was.

Pop and pour. For the first hour, this was vegetal and metallic, and completely unpleasant. Over time these traits softened, replaced with cherry cough syrup, red licorice, and traces of eucalyptus and oak. While the wine retained a nice grip on the glass from an appearance aspect, it tasted thin and slightly hot. After 3+ hrs this mellowed and became more drinkable, probably closer to an 87. Overall however, I'm glad this was a gift and didn't set me back anything.

This is the next to last bottle of a case which has had an incredible amount of bottle variation. Unfortunately, this was one of the lesser bottles. Deep crimson leads to a nose of currant and lead pencil. The body is thin and overwhelmed by dry, dusty tannins. This shows its french heritage by tasting lilke mediocre bordeaux.

This was purchased back in 96 or 97...was NV...as I recall had alot of 94 vintage in it. I had forgot about these and found the remaining in the offsite. Totally suprised right at the open...plenty of sweet fruit, nice oak...not overly complex but good solid easy drinking cab. Wine faded over the couple 2-3 hours open...fruit slowly disepated with only oak remaining.

Classic bordeaux style. Aromas of pencil lead and red fruit. Smooth silky tannins, to be expected from juice not chosen for Opus One. Decent complexity for the price. Nice finish of red fruit. A reasonable second wine from Opus, my only wish is that they would start selling this in the market. Prefer to drink this wine alone rather than with food.

This wine opened with a slight sour smell, and was hoping it hadn't gone off. The wine was opened for about an hour before serving and ended up being very smooth and strong at first taste, but finished well... would recomend. 87/100.
- as it was one of the wines taken to a Christmas Dinner... Wine was bought in the US and then brought to Australia via carry-on (note: found the 15 hour flight from US-AU tends to break down the wines after 8+ months by -40C in the hold - Don't do this unless you plan to drink in a short window)

Classic nose of lead pencil and currant leads to a medium weight body of some complexity followed by a medium length but silky smooth finish. I was very anxious to drink this bottle as the last bottle drank from this case was dissappointing with a vinegar flavor throughout; thankfully, this bottle is back to my memory of the silkiness of overture.

I have had this on two prior occasions, both of which were much better bottles of wine. This had a classic bordeaux nose of lead pencil with a palate of cherry and currant, but a sharp taste permeated both the palate and the finish that greatly detracted from the overall enjoyment of the wine. This did improve after 2 hours in the decanter but was still present on the second day. I am anxious to try another bottle in 3 - 6 months as we have several more.

Cooler, dusty, bluer, earthier than the

~93 pts

Very well put together with notes of dark fruit, some bramble, spice and earth and a touch of oak.

I wonder if they are sourcing grapes for Overture from lesser vineyards?

I've had several bottles of this recently and been entirely unimpressed by all of them. ~3-4 years ago, I found this wine to be exceptionally enjoyable, especially with the QPR. This is no longer true-it lacks depth, grace, and much of anything interesting. 60 minutes in a decanter mellows out its many rough edges and makes for a perfectly easy drink. Open it with friends and family that won't know it from something better.

So I’ve had a variety of experiences with the many bottles I’ve bought of this, mostly good, one not so much.
Red and light purple
Nose: lush, light cherry, gravel, tar, cedar, leather, licorice, mixed berries, sweet spring flowers, pencil lead,
Lighter body, pretty good grainy tannins, mocha, dark chocolate, cacao, bright cherry, red fruits. Everything is well balanced here, it’s a really good wine that probably gets a bad rap unnecessarily.

I have tasted very nice bottles of this but in comparison, there is better out there for the price.

great aged new world Bordeaux.

Appearance: deep ruby, with beautiful legs

Now layer in the old world components of tobacco, green pepper, eucalyptus, and herb and you have a nice combination. Drinking well straight out of bottle and very approachable. Really good in the mouth as well, not too heavy, well defined acidity and solid body. Alcohol is perfectly integrated and does not really seem 14.5%. You could drink a bottle of this one and still ask for more.

This represents a terrible value to quality ratio. I have taste better wines for $20/bt!

Whiffs of blueberries and other mellow dark fruits-the palate follows
with supple texture and mellow tannins. Multi-vintage with all five
claret varieties, the second label of Opus and a wine clearly meant
for earlier consumption than Opus One. A nice effort to produce a
Bordeaux cousin in Napa with a group quite qualified to do so. Only
ordered from the winery and I will place another order soon. JM

Fruits rouges, cassis et coté poivré domine la bouche. Petite touche de fumé qui ressort. J'ai hâte d'ouvrir mes Opus One de cette année. 92.

The nose is fairly open with scents of Lilac, Roses and dark cherry fruit with a hint of vanillin. Be careful.

Nose of currants and some plums. Flavors were consistent with the nose, but added some minerality. Medium bodied wine with a nice mouthfeel and finish.

Drank this bottle after a light Pinot Noir, and before a big Cab. That was the perfect spot for this bottle. Not a real big wine, but easy to drink and enjoy.

Really enjoyed this bottle. This was the second time we have shared this wine, and I liked it more this time than the first. Lots of fruit but a not a long finish.

Tasty, light delicate very balanced without a big fruit bang or the richness that I'd need to rate this higher

Still as good as the bottle we had in January. Bordeaux blend with plenty of fruit and decent complexity. A good value for $40 considering where the fruit comes from. Only have 1 bottle remaining plan to drink next month. Overall very good wine.

Big nose and a decent first impression but nothing exceptional...A decent, earthy, minerally very quaffable drinker

This wine was tasted on my 62nd birthday. It is bordeaux in style and complexity. The nose has carnations and red cherries in abundance. The taste has red and black cherries with a little vanilla. The wine is still not in balance and will improve over the next five years or more.

Soft nose, nothing strikes me - disappointing here for Opus juice. Very fruity, layered, soft tannins and silky on the finish. Nice wine but consistently I notice bottle variation. This was a very good bottle and remains a good QPR. It will be interesting to taste side by side against Facets upon release.

Purchased two of these at the winery. After tasting the first at a dinner that night wishwed that we had purchased a case. Very easy drinking, fruit forward cab with integrated tannins and some complexity.

ORANGE ON THE EDGE. COLOR SHOWED SIGNS OF AGE BUT NOSE AND FLAVOR MORE REMINISCENT OF LATER VINTAGE. WOODINESS IN THE NOSE & FLAVOR WITH BLACKCURRENT AND PLUMS. MEDIUM FINISH. NEEDS A FEW MORE YRS
