Thursday, August 18, 2022 - Opus One 2nd label. 2015 / 2016 vintage blend per QR code on the bottle. 86% cab sauv, 8% merlot, 4% PV and 1% each malbec and CF. Highly recommend, one of the better wines that we have recently had. Decanted tableside ~ 20-30 minutes, ideally would add 60 minutes to that. Drinking window with proper cellaring is another decade with some further softening expected. Overall a MUCH better QPR wine then the Opus One. Light purple, peripheral bricking starting to become detectable, soft mouth feel, good texture, well balanced with softening oak & tannins and starting to integrate nicely. Medium to full bodied and with a lovely lingering aftertaste. Nose aromatic with stewed plums, black cherry, anise and a somewhat smokey finish. Flavor profile classic high end Napa cab with dark stone fruit, cassis and blueberry up front with wet stone, licorice and coffee developing folllowed by sweet tobacco on the finish.
