Sunday, April 4, 2021 - Whenever I open a bottle of a legendary wine from my cellar for the first time, I feel apprehension lest it underperforms. This bottle, however, lived up fully to the estate's reputation and was the perfect accompaniment for Easter lamb. Colour was limpid with very little bricking at the rim. The nose was discreet but fine with notes of ripe berry fruit and hints of rose petal which I don't recall before in a left bank style Bordeaux blend. The palate was medium bodied, linear shaped and harmonious with quite some underlying roundness and silky texture and showed similar fruit and aromas as the nose. Acids were mouth-wateringly fresh but perfectly integrated except after a mouthful of sweetish spring vegetables which brought them forward. Tannins were riper and more resolved than with most Bordeaux of the same vintage and supported well the decently long finish. A lovely elegant bottle. Excellent.
