Tuesday, November 27, 2012 - It's been a long time since I've opened a CdP this young, and the young, fresh fruit and garrigue notes were very welcome and pleasing. The palate shows fresh cherry and berry fruit, is bright but not lush, is well contained, and shows a pleasing note of lavender and a very interesting and distinct note of fresh sage. With air, forest notes emerge, and the fruit shows a nice sweet-sour balance. But then I note a bitter edge to the tannin. While there is no degradation or oxidation over night, there is not much improvement either, and the tannin still shows a hard edge to it. My guess is that this will improve with short-term cellaring, say, two or three years. However, I don't expect it to become a great wine. It's good now, not great. Say, B, maybe a stretch to a B+.
