Thursday, August 15, 2019 - No formal tasting notes. Quick table decant at the restaurant (HoPR). First taste, fruit heavy/muted on the palate, tannins present but weak. Opened up over the course of the next 90 minutes. Great depth, full body, med acidity, med(+?) alcohol with just a bit of heat on the finish. Rich black fruit, anise, white pepper, with notes of savory herbs and dark earthy soil. Tannins pointed, but well-integrated to round everything out. Wonderful balance with a long finish. Enjoyed with a traditional prime rib dinner; enough in the wine to match the fatty/flavorful meal. Wish we hadn't finished the bottle as quickly so I could have tasted it over the next few hours. Has 3 years left in its prime at least.
