Saturday, May 18, 2013 - The color is amazing for a Merlot of this age! Dark crimson; very little bricking. Nose is initially pretty closed on the PnP with just light fragrances of rosemary and dark fruit. As it begins to open, the aroma evolves into a dark cherry, eucalyptus, leather, forest floor profile. Nice acidity on the palate; flavors of blackberry and plum. Finish is long and lingering with saw dust, leather, stone and juniper berries. Still some tannins hanging on in the back end. Later on, the nose developed a noticeable amount of barnyard! That was quite bizarre and unexpected, but it made the wine that much more interesting.
