Thursday, February 5, 2009 - Caroline Wine Shop - Italy-Tuscany (Carolines Wine Shop): Deep cherry colour, the wine has a powerful, intense nose with attractive dry spice, blackberry, orange peel and a hint of balsamic/soy. Dusting of cocoa powder.
Penetrating and mouth-filling, with plenty of guts, this shows impressive depth and an alluring melted chocolate texture. Complex with dried fruits, raisins, sweet berries and spice cake, this is a high-quality example with a long, winding finish.
Ornellaia is owned by the Frescobaldi family.
