Sunday, August 14, 2011 - Popped and aerated in bottle for 3+ hours. Medium-plus purple/garnet, slight haze. Quite perfumed upon first pour, the aromas are both fruit-driven and complex, with expressive notes of black & blue fruits, pronounced black currant, fresh mint, anise, rosemary, and even a touch of minerals. The herbaceous aromas grow with aeration in glass and an additional subtle note of spice/incense also appears. Medium-plus body, but quite elegant. Really, the overall balance is just impeccable. As it shows on the nose, this is all about the fresh fruit flavors throughout the palate along with herbaceous notes and refrained oak. While certainly structured, the tannins are seemingly completely obscured by the fruit. Plus close. Just a beautiful example of Napa Cabernet, and one which will undoubtedly show splendidly throughout the next 5-10+ years. Perfect blend of modern/traditional Napa Cabernet. Wow.

Quick commentary: Much better the 2007 vintage at this same stage and overall, a more complete wine. Tasted next to the 2007 12C and while just as nice, the latter is certainly more from the modern school and made for a very interesting comparison. What did we learn from this? It's hard to go wrong with either wine if you love Napa Cab!
