96 Points

Saturday, January 25, 2014 - My first bottle of 6 of these. Been saving for the right night (cold, snowy, in need of warmth). That nite has arrived in Ohio.
First nite, PnP and had a few glasses w/the wife. Conn Valley Cabs are her absolute favorite, btw, and she can pick them out of a blind line up. She did this nite as well, and said she loved it. But I was perplexed at the lack of body and the soft and supple tannins that this wine was showing off immediately after opening, making it more of an early drinker in my mind than all the press had built up. I stated the latest drinking window would be 2018, and rated it a 90.
Came back 2 nites later to have a few glasses. This seems like a different wine to me now. The supple and inviting nature is still there with the voluptuous mouthfeel that always adorns these CVV Cabs, but it has put on weight, and the tannins now show some tenacity and tartness, with beautifully balanced Napa acidity, and a chalkiness and astringency that I adore in fine Napa Cabs like this.
This wine is just entering into it's drinking window, and with a proper decant, opens up nicely to reveal layers of complexity and flawless balance. This is really at the pinnacle of possibilities for Napa Cabs in my mind. Will improve another 3-5 years in bottle, and drink well through 2025 or so. Superb.
