Monday, February 24, 2014 - It's funny. This last bottle of this wine has been sitting in the wine refrigerator longer than anything else since I just could not get excited about drinking it based on experience with previous bottles. Tonight was the night, and surprise...it was good. Slightly turbid light yellow with some remaining green. Low pitched citrus. Medium body-certainly not the ponderous weight I'd encountered before, and even has some delicacy of the cru. Sweet orange, vanilla, chalk and some salinity with adequate acidity. Yes, the wood stuck out much more than it usually does in Raveneau wines, but all in all, not only recognizable as Chablis, but better than merely good. Wonders never cease, but this won't spur me to load up on 2003 Chablis or any European white for that matter.
