This was so good; far and away the oldest Vouvray I've had; the nose was full on with dried mango, pineapple, tinned peach; honey; just a bit of wool and hay; incredibly fresh and vibrant with a hint of sweetness that is perfectly balanced by the acidity. Long and lingering notes of peach and mango on the finish. Incredible.

A survey of Domaine Huet (Chicago, IL): Cursive label. This was a much more subtle and quiet wine next to the exuberant 1971 Le Mont Moelleux. It definitely feels far drier, and there's almost a mild smoky component to it. The modest sweetness seems to have faded away (the difference with the sec is pretty stark) into more of a textural component than outright sweetness. This feels very balanced and drinks like a large-scaled dry wine than a wine with any residual sugar at all. Incredibly fresh, but I do wish that this had a little more fruit (especially knowing how so many of these old wines had held up so well).

low fill and visibly dark in the bottle. intriguing nose. smells enticingly correct but, no.
tasting confirms that this (bottle) did not age gracefully enough for pleasant drinking 50+ years later. displays overt typicity and no overt flaws=easy "like" for a wine of this age but that's all.
edit: with multiple days air seems to come into itself. the nose is quite charming. a very fragrant mix of chenin, apple butter, and sherry. if more acid had been retained, it'd be a pleasant glass. tbh, I'm most enjoying adding a splash of this to champagnes

Lovely complex nose with ripe fruit notes, wool, hints of honey and flowers. Fresh and lively on the palate, much more balanced than the rather lean 1969 Le Haut Lieu Sec. Chalky minerality, slight spicy, good fruit. Super length. 92-94

Light golden yellow. In the nose, heathland honey, candied ginger, orange. It's a bit spicy, but very elegant and harmonic. On the palate, nicely balanced, harmonic, barely sweet, rather soft. Dry finish. Very "Le Mont" in its overall aromatic.

Seasonal dinner (Seasonal, NYC): This is all about freshness. How often will I get to write that about a 40+ year old wine?!! It's a light amber/gold colour, looking and smelling rather mature with a fragrance combining mature honeyed, green tea and smoky aromas with golden Chenin fruit and wooly elements, but there's remarkable freshness and vibrancy in the mouth with a chalky mineral aspect beneath the fruit and really bright acidity keeping everything really lively and fresh.

Quel nez! Fraîcheur et fruits (frais!), aucune trace d'oxydation. En bouche le sucre s'est totalement fondu, pas impression de demi-sec. Belle fraîcheur en bouche aussi et longueur correcte.

This wine had a weird aged honey taste with a very bad aftertaste - maybe i opened a badly oxydized one. Not even sure if i want to try the second one ...

Peu agréable avec un côté lacté qui m'a un peu répugné
