A very nice surprise. Still quite dark with lighter rim. On the nose some roasted dark fruit, smoke and hint of animals, after it opens up (0.5-1) also some floral component. On the palate this is clearly aged, but well integrated mix of dark fruits, smoke, spicy mid-palate, good acidity and some coffee with remaining tannins on the finish. It is quite amazing that this bottling can hold and evolve in a positive direction for almost a decade. This was the tastiest after an hour in the glass, so it can likely go for another year or two. 88-89

Beautiful dark red with thinness at the edge. Nose of mulled blackberries. Mixture of red and black berries that is hard to separate. Also present are chocolate and....cola? This wine is somewhat complex and has several pronounced flavors that I recognize but can't find the words for. Almost chalky mouth-feel. The body is a bit thin. This wine has clearly plateaued, but I don't see any signs of degrading. Very well done.

I am totally surprised by this wine! I purchased it back in 2004 and have moved it a couple of times. It also sat in a warmer environmental while I was building my wine cellar. Much to my surprise, the is an excellent wine with still some life in it. The limit of 2007 to drink seems slightly premature...I would feel comfortable drinking through 2010 (except mine is gone!) It has a deep purple color; nose is tar and slightly astringent; palette is extremely soft tannins, spice on the front of the mouth....lingering smoothness on the finish...
I like it!

I Liked the 2003 vintage a lot given its price ($15 on winebid) and I also really like the 2002. Opened up after 30-45 mins and lots of cherry on the tongue. A well built wine that could last a couple of more years, but it is drinking very well at this point.

Dark in color with a nose of earth, blackberries, anise, and herbs. Mid to full bodied and a bit rustic on the palate. More anise, blackberries, meat, black pepper, thyme, and sage on the palate. Good midpalate feel and depth at the tariff, and surprisingly long on the back end. Not the most polished wine, but with good character and soul, and a fantastic value to boot. Lasted two days opened. A very good wine and a stunning value.

Color: dark inky purple nose: rich, spicy, extracted blackberry with some gaminess and hints of pine. A big wine with good structure. Blackberry and black pepper with an earthy dry finish. Not for the faint of of heart, but super value and an awesome food wine.

Tasted December 31, 2006 at home. Opened and served immediately in a Spiegelau Authentis Rot Wein glass. Purple color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Still a dark purple with a light red highlighting the rim. Stout as I remembered with some brett on opening blowing off to leave mostly a sense of dark fruit and spice. Strong grip and plenty of fruit...not necessarily smooth, as mentioned before, this could be described as a touch rustic.

Surpisingly good Spanish wine. Probably one of the best I've had -- though I have to admit I don't have too much history with Spanish wine. Anyway, it was low on tannins, medium to full bodied. Not exploding with fruit -- but tasty nonetheless. Drank with squash risotto and salad -- interestingly!! Would buy again!

Probably not my thing. Get cherries, leather and pepper on the nose but the palate is to tight/thin. With a very long, fine tannic finish this is certainly a good wine but I didn't enjoy the palate.

Well, I've read everyone else's notes and all I can say is maybe there's some bottle variation with this wine, because this bottle was absolutely spectacular. Truly fine wine. Dark purple, nearly black. The nose is just singing with cigar tobacco, leather, and dark cherry fruits. Smells more Italian than Spanish, but just a joy to smell. Super smooth in the mouth, even silky. Flavors match the aroma and the aftertaste is decently long and very clean. I wouldn't cellar this one for too many years, this is about as good as it's going to get. Unbelievable value.

Nose of cassis, black cherries, a little bit of leather and some pepper notes. Flavors of red cherries, black berries, raspberries and a touch of bitters on the finish. Integrated tannins, fresh acidity. Drink over the next year. Based on the $9.34 local retail price I paid I'd say the value of this wine is recommended.

Dark clear purple color with a tad of barnyard funk on opening that went away completly in just a short time to reveal some rich dark berries backed by a little smoke and an ongoing earthiness. Ample fruit and a solid grip that made this a great food wine on a cold evening...as some say it may be rustic, but it is a good rustic.

Ok, heavy barnyard on the nose which settled down to mild after 3 hours in the decanter. Still rustic, a wine that a year ago I'd have scored higher...but now, it strikes me as just "rustic." Oh well, the palate does change...one more of these to go.

Deep, almost opaque purple. Nose of black fruits and some barnyardy licorice. With time the fruits came out more prominently -- particularly ripe plum and black cherry -- and the licorice elements moved somewhat into the background. After an hour or so I noted a floral topnote. In the mouth it is medium to full bodied, with a good acidic backbone and noticeable tannins. The finish is somewhat hollow, but with a lingering sweet aftertaste.

A little disappointed, given evaluations others have given this. The bottle was definitely slightly heat damaged -- cork had been pushed out a little and it tasted slightly cooked. A little tart for my tastes, smoky, cherry cola flavors. Have another bottle and will be interested to see if it is the same -- if this bottle is representative would not buy more.
