First bottle I had a year ago and would have rated it a disappointing 86. This bottle was consumed a month ago and it was delicious. Don't have good enough memory to offer tasting notes, but my wife and I both thought it was phenomenal.

I would have guessed some significant Petite Sirah in this blend based on the dark purple color and tannin and acidity levels. But no - 65% Cab, 16% Merlot, 10% Syrah, some Malbec and Cab Franc. The cab dominates the aroma and taste - with cassis, blackberry, grassiness and high alcohol characteristics. Also chocolate, clove, anise and some light floral hints. High acidity and tannin, medium+ body, medium finish. It's pretty hot and a bit harsh initially, but rounds out with some air time. It definitely grew on me. The score reflects the benefits of time in the glass (an hour or more), otherwise it would be 5 points lower.

Wine was a bit closed initially, but opened up to reveal herbal notes with some black tar. Syrah is a relatively small component of the blend, but provides a meaty base, with smaller pepper and spice notes on a cabernet base. Very enjoyable, but not outstanding. Let it breathe for a hour or so before drinking.

P. McCullough: deep color; black cherry on nose; complex taste with heavy tannins. Very tight - could use a decanter and some time.
